Wear your most glamorous swimsuit this weekend, sip a fruity cocktail and enjoy the summer sun.

Making infused vodka had been on our summer to-do list for over a year and I’m not really sure why we dawdled for so long. (Maybe I’m just too impatient for a cocktail?) It was incredibly easy and well worth the wait.
Here’s what you need to do:
We kept it simple and mixed our concoction with 7Up. The lemon-lime soda added sweetness to the infused vodka without overshadowing the strawberry flavor. Next up: Blackberry vodka? Jalapeno tequila? Cherry rum?
Louisville’s namesake: King Louis XVI
We drank plenty of bourbon, including mint juleps at Churchill Downs.
I almost bet on this horse because of the pretty color it was sporting, but opted for another. The horse I bet on lost, but so did number nine.
Later, I placed a $5 bet on a winning horse and came away with $11. High risk, high reward.
I would have loved to stay at 21c, which is a hotel, museum and restaurant rolled into one. The venue has plastic penguins that change location everyday. The second time we walked past the building, there were a dozen lined up on the roof.
He also mysteriously disappeared the next time we walked past.
They even used small penguin pins to post the dinner and drink menus outside of the restaurant.

I couldn’t resist a ceramic penguin to bring home. Dave isn’t content with its location on the bookshelf and insists on moving it throughout the house.
The world’s largest baseball bat resides outside of the Louisville Slugger factory and museum.
The vault holds every bat model that the company has produced.
Next door, a baseball hits the building housing the Kentucky Mirror & Plate Glass company.

Thank you for all of the birthday notes yesterday! The day was wonderfully relaxing with sprinkle donuts, mimosas, cribbage, cupcakes and flowers. It was exactly what I needed to unwind after our adventure to Kentucky. On the first day of our vacation, Dave surprised me with a 35mm prime lens (I can’t get over how much better photos look) and my parents gave me a pair of opal earrings created with the stones from my grandmother’s ring (I definitely teared up).
