The Coveted

This week, I’m coveting:

  • The flirty silhouette of this neoprene top.
  • An ultra chic happy hour with these pink stone coasters. A brass accent lends the right amount of shine. (These would make a wonderful hostess gift this holiday season.)
  • An unexpected cocktail ring.
  • Floral trousers in a luxe blend of silk and wool. The pretty print also comes in a top, dress, and pencil skirt.
  • Strappy flats. (I just placed an order for these. I’m itching to wear them with mod mini skirts and my new plaid coat.)
  • A blush envelope clutch. I have it in black and it’s one of the my most sophisticated pieces.

This week, I’m coveting:

  • J.Crew’s new arrivals and especially this relaxed turtleneck at 25% off. I’m also loving this striped sweater, this military-inspired coat, and these glitter flats.
  • A sassy lip-print mini bag that I’m thisclose to buying.
  • A Marni-inspired necklace for just $30 (plus free shipping).
  • The sleek hint of gold on the heel of these ankle boots. They’re under $200 and come in four colors. I’ve tried — and failed — to find a pair of ankle boots every fall for the past three years. These might be the winners. Fingers crossed!
  • Navy eyeliner.
  • The subtle texture on a jacquard pencil skirt.
  • Pineapple candle holders. (I found a vintage set a few years ago on eBay.)

This week, I’m coveting plenty of ’70s-inspired garb, including:

  • The dress I picked up at Zara in Georgetown the other day. I’m absolutely smitten with the bell sleeves and short hemline. There’s an outfit post featuring it coming soon!
  • This mini bag in the prettiest blush hue. It’s on the pricey side for such a small purse, so I’m keeping an eye out for a sale. (On another note, did you see Tory Burch’s “Paris” collection? The feathered collar of this shirt seems is great DIY inspiration and this clutch is to die for!)
  • Round retro sunglasses.
  • A faux suede skirt. There are also faux suede mini skirts that come in camel with and without buttons.
  • A feminine creamy nude lipstick, which perfectly offsets a smokey eye.
  • An ivory turtleneck that you’ll wear during the work week just as often as the weekend.
  • A statement pendant to wear with the season’s tunic dresses. (Confession: My favorite pendants are vintage finds from eBay. I love this, this, and this. It takes patience to hunt down the good stuff, but I’ve found that including the word “runway” with other vintage jewelry search terms yields the best oversize pieces.) The cocktail ring version of this pendant is on sale for $58.

I may not be ready to wear fall clothing just yet, but I am eager to plan next season’s purchases. I mentioned that I was trying to stay away from impulsive purchases, but this shirtdress stole my heart. I love a loose silhouette for long days at the office and the tie neck detail is just the right amount of the ’70s trend. I’m also on the lookout for a pair of ankle boots and flared jeans (although, I’m almost positive I have a pair identical to these somewhere in my closet). Here’s what else I have my eye on:

  • A classic shift dress, updated with tie detailing at the sleeves.
  • Red nail polish for a classic manicure.
  • A mini bag for just the essentials.
  • A curious fox peeking above the brim of this knit hat.
  • A wool peacoat. Dave gave me one for Christmas last year and I wore it the rest of the winter.
  • A fuzzy buffalo plaid mini. I don’t know what it is about this skirt, but I think it’s utterly charming. Pair it with a slim knit top and sneakers for a grownup take on a school uniform.
  • Floral embellishments on a pair of d’Orsay heels. Wouldn’t they look great with a LBD and an olive green anorak?

This week, I’m coveting:

  • A chic cape, along with many other new arrivals at J.Crew. This looks like the perfect fit-and-flare LBD and I adore this special occasion dress.
  • Illesteva sunglasses in the “frost” colorway. It seems like everyone has these sunglasses now, but the shape is almost too fun to resist!
  • A flattering chambray shirt dress. This darling number has an adjustable waist tie so you can get the perfect fit.
  • A flippy mini skirt. This cute skirt is a steal at $79. Throw on this grey sweater for an adorable monochromatic ensemble.
  • An onyx statement pendant. I really admire Aurélie Bidermann’s work — I just wish it was a bit more affordable! This piece is especially breathtaking and also comes in a hoop earring version.
  • A pointed version of the now iconic kitty flats. You know how much I love a pointed flat.

Our guest room wasn’t a design priority until la Our guest room wasn’t a design priority until late last year when we finally bought a bed, mattress, and a set of sheets. We used some of our own extra bedding (tucking in the generous overhang of our king blankets under the queen-sized mattress) and old bedside lamps from our bedroom: functional, but not quite the charming space I’d envisioned.

That started to change when I purchased the Popcorn Grid Coverlet from Schoolhouse — an item I’d been eyeing for years — plus some graphic floral pillows. Then came a bright blue round cushion and the sweetest Teig lamp, both generously gifted by Schoolhouse, and the room finally started to come together. Growing up in northern Wisconsin, lilacs always hi Growing up in northern Wisconsin, lilacs always hit peak bloom right around my birthday on May 30. My mom would fill a large crystal vase with fresh-cut stems, and their scent would waft through the house.

Now that I live a few hours south and lilac season wraps up earlier, the blooms actually mark the start of my birthday month.

I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog of travel photos before we book our next trip. First up, photos of the gothic York Minster. I’m not religious in the slightest but I can’t resist stunning architecture and the opportunity to climb hundreds of cathedral stairs for a city view. This one only had a single rest stop about halfway up the flight of 275 steps for a closeup view of the flying buttresses — and a waiver you had to sign before your ascent to promise you’re healthy enough to make it.
