Five Under $55

I’m so happy that it’s finally the weekend! Dave and I are hitting the road bright and early this morning for a weekend in Louisville. We’re stopping in Indianapolis on the way down to pick up bottles of Upland Brewing Co.’s sour release and then, well, the weekend is our oyster. I’m anticipating a relaxing happy hour at Garage Bar, a Saturday morning coffee run to Please & Thank You, and stocking up of bourbon balls from Schimpff’s Confectionery. Follow along on Snapchat! You’ll find me @bedknobsbaubles.

Packing List: Santorini

July 23, 2015 by jessica 11 Comments

What-To-Pack-For-Santorini
The negative media spotlight on Greece hasn’t curbed my desire to visit Santorini and that’s probably for the best, given that the country relies heavily on tourist dollars. It’s basically my duty as an upstanding global citizen to book a trip, right?

Sadly, I don’t have plans to jet set to the Aegean Sea (unlike Fran!), but that’s not stopping me from packing my fantasy suitcase. Now, before you say anything, I know. Blue and white for Santorini? Groundbreaking. I can’t help it, though, the classic color scheme makes for a versatile capsule wardrobe and just imagine how pretty blue dresses (like these) will look in photos!

Designer Dupe: Chloe Drew Bag

July 22, 2015 by jessica 13 Comments

Designer-Dupe-Chloe-Drew-Bag
So, who wants the look of the Chloé Drew satchel for $1,685 less than the retail value of the designer it bag?

*Raises Hand*

I came across the designer dupe online this morning and, while I’m normally not a proponent of a knockoff, I’m a huge fan of this bag, especially because it’s made of leather. Sure, there have been other Chloé lookalikes for even less, but I just can’t get on board with another faux leather bag. I never wear them. This, I’d wear.

UPDATE: I did purchase the bag. Here’s a link to the review!

New Arrival

Kate-Spade-Carima-Loafers6

I know that speckled faux-snakeskin loafers may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but I’m obsessed with these Kate Spade beauties. I picked them out at Shopbop with my partnership credit and I couldn’t be happier with the purchase. I love the slightly pointed toe. I love the feminine take on a menswear shoe. I love the teeny gold spade on the heel. I don’t love that I have to wait four more weeks to wear them! Who knew a broken foot would lead to three-month sartorial handicap?!

They’re available at Shopbop in limited sizes (plus free two-day shipping if you have Amazon Prime!). Otherwise, it looks like Nordstrom, Kate Spade, and Zappos have the full size run. As with most Kate Spade shoes, they run true to size.

The Coveted

CurrentlyCoveting-072115

This week, I’m coveting:

  • The peek-a-boo waist detail on an Elizabeth and James dress. The sophisticated color makes the airy dress the perfect transitional piece this fall.
  • The wallet version of Chloé’s must-have bag. Understandably, everyone is obsessed with the “Drew” bag right now. The wallet is just as chic and can double as a clutch.
  • Iosselliani’s asymmetrical earrings. They come in blue, green, and red.
  • This beautiful blue-grey nail polish (it’s the “Anise” shade). There’s also a deal on Deborah Lippmann’s “Undressed” nail polish set that comes with six mini bottles of neutral shades for $34. (It’s my favorite beauty steal during the #NSale, along with the Clinique moisturizer I always use.)
  • Menswear-inspired ankle boots from Tory Burch. Every fall I look for the perfect pair of booties and every fall I fail miserably. I love the “Hyde” version in patent navy. The kilt detail is removable for a more understated look.
  • Tibi’s off-the-shoulder top in wool twill. I love the top on everyone, but didn’t think a $300 price tag was worth it for cotton or denim. However, I’m tempted by this grey wool version. It’s a bit more expensive, but would look beautiful with my favorite slim pants and the loafers I recently added to my wardrobe.
  • This faux leather pleated skirt. It’s by far my favorite piece from J.Crew’s new arrivals. I prefer the navy version and would love to wear it with preppy sailor stripes.

In other news, I ordered this Topshop striped dress from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale and this swing dress from the regular sale section. The swing dress is absolutely darling! It’s fully lined, lightweight for steamy days, and just $29. I’m planning to bring it to Louisville this weekend, but wanted to at least mention it in case it sells out before I post photos. I went up a size, since it’s a junior’s item. The Topshop dress, on the other hand, did not work for my body. It was large on top, but too snug around the hips. It would be adorable on someone tall and lean, though!

Our guest room wasn’t a design priority until la Our guest room wasn’t a design priority until late last year when we finally bought a bed, mattress, and a set of sheets. We used some of our own extra bedding (tucking in the generous overhang of our king blankets under the queen-sized mattress) and old bedside lamps from our bedroom: functional, but not quite the charming space I’d envisioned.

That started to change when I purchased the Popcorn Grid Coverlet from Schoolhouse — an item I’d been eyeing for years — plus some graphic floral pillows. Then came a bright blue round cushion and the sweetest Teig lamp, both generously gifted by Schoolhouse, and the room finally started to come together. Growing up in northern Wisconsin, lilacs always hi Growing up in northern Wisconsin, lilacs always hit peak bloom right around my birthday on May 30. My mom would fill a large crystal vase with fresh-cut stems, and their scent would waft through the house.

Now that I live a few hours south and lilac season wraps up earlier, the blooms actually mark the start of my birthday month.

I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog of travel photos before we book our next trip. First up, photos of the gothic York Minster. I’m not religious in the slightest but I can’t resist stunning architecture and the opportunity to climb hundreds of cathedral stairs for a city view. This one only had a single rest stop about halfway up the flight of 275 steps for a closeup view of the flying buttresses — and a waiver you had to sign before your ascent to promise you’re healthy enough to make it.
