Inspire It | Wear It

November 13, 2012 by jessica Leave a Comment

If you’re updating your winter wardrobe with just one item this year, try a classic felt coat with leather sleeves (either real or faux). It adds just the right amount of irreverence to go from work to weekend with ease. Better yet, you don’t have to invest a paycheck to try it out. The version from the Buffalo Jeans clothing store (left) is only $158.

Classic Keds mixed with Kate Spade’s signature charm? Oh. My. Goodness. Keds’ latest collaboration is due out this February in Kate Spade stores and at Nordstrom. I’ve got my eye on that picnic-perfect gingham pair.

Postcards from D.C.

November 12, 2012 by jessica Leave a Comment

This was our second trip to D.C. in as many years and I’m still left with a “must-see” list that’s longer than what we checked off. Last year we hectically squeezed in as many museums as possible – to the point where I refused to learn anything more. We vowed this visit would be different with more time devoted to strolling through neighborhoods and indulging in afternoon drinks.

The best laid plans …

Here’s just some of what we did: Holocaust Memorial Museum, saw pandas at the National Zoo, Newseum, tried out the Uber car service, purchased art at the Eastern Market flea market, National Archives, Pizzeria Paradiso (three times), hung out with Lisa in Old Town Alexandria, stumbled across Hello Kitty’s campaign office, the International Spy Museum’s “Spy in the City” walk, Georgetown, watched election results roll in, photographed the view from the Old Post Office Pavilion, dinner at Old Ebbitt Grill (rumor has it that Roosevelt bagged the walrus displayed in the bar)

Bauble of the Week

November 11, 2012 by jessica Leave a Comment

Those who follow me on Instagram know that I spent time earlier this week organizing my jewelry collection. It was a project that was long overdue and made me realize just how many baubles I have (though, not quite hoarder territory … yet). Moving forward, I’ve vowed to limit my jewelry purchases to thoughtfully chosen items that are unique, stunning and high quality, like this pair of Belle Noel earrings ($95).

Currently Coveting

November 9, 2012 by jessica Leave a Comment

I’ve been knee-deep in holiday cheer ever since we visited the National Zoo this week and spotted the staff putting up decorations. Judging by my “most coveted” list above, that’s not going to change anytime soon (especially since I’m snacking on peppermint bark and burning a pine-scented candle). Let’s just hope that I can keep the Christmas decor packed away until after Thanksgiving.

And the winner is… Congratulations to Jennifer R. for winning the $100 gift card to Shopbop. I’ll be in touch with you soon! Thanks again to everyone for entering and don’t forget to enter to win a pair of slippers from Daniel Green!

Everyone we met in Philly apologized for their gruff nature, despite no one actually living up to that stereotype. 😂

It’s so nice to be home after a whirlwind week. It’s so nice to be home after a whirlwind week. We flew out to Philadelphia last Friday for a few days of exploring. It was our first time in the City of Brotherly Love and we loved every minute of it from the architecture to the restaurants, and most of all: the welcoming and friendly people. After that, we had one night at home before a flight to Denver to celebrate my cousin’s wedding. We got back to Madison late last night and have spent the day puttering around the house, getting caught up on laundry, grocery shopping, harvesting the season’s first tomatoes from the garden, and admiring just how much the hydrangeas have grown in the course of a week.
I always get a kick out of comparing views of our I always get a kick out of comparing views of our home today to the photos I took during our home inspection. (Swipe to see our main bedroom then!) While I knew the house had potential, it was hard to look past some of the owner’s “design” choices. Though, it looks like the room was destined to have a warm-toned quilt. 😂

P.S. @schoolhouse just released new colors of their popular Stillwater Floral Quilt!

It also inadvertently became the weekend I made Dave eat a cheeseburger every day, between @redhotranchchicago, @eatmottst, and @smallcheval. There are worst ways to spend a weekend.

Our guest room wasn’t a design priority until la Our guest room wasn’t a design priority until late last year when we finally bought a bed, mattress, and a set of sheets. We used some of our own extra bedding (tucking in the generous overhang of our king blankets under the queen-sized mattress) and old bedside lamps from our bedroom: functional, but not quite the charming space I’d envisioned.

That started to change when I purchased the Popcorn Grid Coverlet from Schoolhouse — an item I’d been eyeing for years — plus some graphic floral pillows. Then came a bright blue round cushion and the sweetest Teig lamp, both generously gifted by Schoolhouse, and the room finally started to come together.
