On the Right Foot: Plans for the Champs-Élysées, An Affordable and Chic PJ Set, Return of the Homemaker & More!

January 25, 2021 by jessica Leave a Comment

Inside Jenna Lyons’ closet. And if anyone knows where the lamp is from in this image (above), please let me know! It has such a great shape!

And while we’re on the topic of lamps, how great is this one? It’s like a piece of art.

The Mayor of Paris has unveiled a €250 million plan to transform the Champs-Élysées into an “extraordinary garden.”

I picked up this super-soft pajama set over the weekend at Target.

Why women wore pearls to support Kamala Harris on Inauguration Day.

The pandemic has brought the return of the homemaker.

Love these lace-up sandals!

Department stores have a long history of racist exclusion.

The unlikely connection between wellness influencers and pro-Trump rioters.

Six houseplant mistakes to avoid this winter.

In case you missed it:

  • Fourteen finds for Valentine’s Day.

Have a wonderful week!

One Month Until Valentine’s Day: 14 Festive Finds

January 14, 2021 by jessica Leave a Comment

14 Festive Finds for Valentine's Day

In we’re not big on celebrating Valentine’s Day around here. We typically order in and share a special Belgian beer from our cellar that we picked up on our travels. However, that’s not to say that I don’t appreciate a few subtle festive touches in anticipation and celebration of February 14. Below, you’ll find some of my favorite items for decorating and celebrating, along with a few gift ideas.

  1. Your Valentine’s cocktail will be even more special when served in this elegant coupe. (It’s backordered until the beginning of February, so don’t delay!)
  2. Add a single stem to these asymmetrical vases in the prettiest pale pink.
  3. Keep your pout supple with this lip mask.
  4. A swirled glass serving platter in a romantic shade of pink.
  5. Candles are an absolute must. Opt for a designer-approved holder.
  6. Not into overly romantic tablescapes? How about bold, colorful stemware and double old-fashioned glasses?
  7. Darling trinket trays. The “Just Between Us” set is my favorite.
  8. If plants are their (or your!) love language, try this.
  9. Scroll through your camera rolls and print off some of your favorite memories together. We keep our prints in a bowl on the coffee table!
  10. Such a cute pair of pajama shorts!
  11. Looking to splurge? I gave Dave a Solo Stove outdoor fire pit for Christmas and it’s pretty fun!
  12. This doormat is such a charmingly unexpected way to decorate for the holiday!
  13. I’m not one to wear heart-shaped jewelry, but I’d make an exception for these.
  14. Mwah!

On the Right Foot: My First Sartorial Purchase of the Year, Mocktails for Dry January, How Epidemics Influenced Home Design & More!

January 11, 2021 by jessica Leave a Comment

On the Right Foot

It feels tone deaf to be completely chipper on a Monday morning after the week we just endured. If it makes you feel any better, there are just nine more days left of Trump’s administration and we can — hopefully — turn our attention to healing. I am hopeful for a better 2021, especially knowing our president-elect recognizes the blatant racism that runs through America’s veins and isn’t shying away from talking about it. Now, we just need to do something about it. (While he’s goal-setting, maybe he can work on that vaccination rollout, too.)

Clearly I picked the wrong year to participate in Dry January. If you’re also declining booze this month (or just not a drinker in general), try these mocktails.

My first sartorial purchase of the year was this silk blouse. The additional 25% off sale ends at the end of today and items are returnable, so it’s worth giving something a shot if you have your eye on an item. I also adore these snakeskin-embossed flats.

The Sex and the City reboot has been confirmed!

I loved this response to those on social media who tell influencers to “stay in your lane” when it comes to politics.

Five tips for getting your creative project off the ground.

I have heart-eyes for this preppy phone case.

Women in construction share their advice on where to save and spend during a renovation.

Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris on the road ahead.

LEGO recently came out with a very cute botanical collection.

How previous epidemics influenced home design.

It’s about time to pare down that skincare and beauty collection.

I just added this unique taper holder to my home.

On the Right Foot: Thoughts on Stylish With Jenna Lyons, Statement Gingham, Instant Pot Masala, & More!

January 4, 2021 by jessica Leave a Comment

Lisbon Portugal
A snapshot from our 2019 trip to Portugal.

Exploring heritage’s role in fashion houses today.

How’s this for a business cautionary tale? Kodak created the digital camera in 1975, but didn’t pursue digital photography products in fear that it would siphon money from analog film. The market was saturated by the time Kodak decided to throw its hat in the ring 15 years later.

A fun quiz for identifying your interior aesthetic. I got retro, which I don’t think is entirely true, but I do like a vintage moment.

I adore this striped sweater!

I finished watching Stylish With Jenna Lyons over the weekend and it’s a trainwreck. As this piece suggests, the show is bit of a documentary of a wealthy woman going through a mid-life crisis. On the positive side, it does give the viewer plenty of tips on how not to manage people in the workplace. (That said, I do think Jenna is a style icon. This show, however, did nothing to improve her personal brand.)

I can get on board with lördagsgodis, Sweden’s tradition of eating sweets on Saturdays.

An interview with the co-founders of Mansur Gavriel.

A modern-meets-vintage necklace.

I feel like we’ll see Blair Eadie in this statement-making gingham dress sometime this year!

My parents gave me an Instant Pot for Christmas and I’m trying it out this week with chicken tikka masala.

I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog of travel photos before we book our next trip. First up, photos of the gothic York Minster. I’m not religious in the slightest but I can’t resist stunning architecture and the opportunity to climb hundreds of cathedral stairs for a city view. This one only had a single rest stop about halfway up the flight of 275 steps for a closeup view of the flying buttresses — and a waiver you had to sign before your ascent to promise you’re healthy enough to make it.
