Every beach getaway deserves a new swimsuit, so I was especially grateful that Orchid Boutique offered to send one over just in time for our South Carolina vacation. The shop offers an array of beach essentials and has already become my go-to destination for flattering one-piece swimsuits.

I fell for the whimsical updates on this classic navy swimsuit. There’s enough ruching to hide trouble spots and the box pleats are a welcome way to boost my small bust. A word of warning to other ladies with full hips: this suit is difficult to hike up. I had chosen my regular size (I didn’t want it to be too large on top), but I’d recommend sizing up if you’re blessed with an hourglass figure. It comes with a detachable halter strap if you’re looking for additional support.

Really, though, I felt beautiful in this swimsuit and isn’t that what matters most? (Truth be told, I didn’t feel as confident as the bikini-clad gal on the beach nearby. Her boyfriend was snapping photos of her in some awfully risque poses!)

Currently Coveting

April 11, 2013 by jessica Leave a Comment

Right now, I’m coveting:

  • Kate Spade’s new woven clutch in either burnt sienna or navy
  • A pair of turquoise and crystal earrings
  • A swimsuit straight out of the ’70s
  • Tropical sandals in an eclectic mix of shells and raffia
  • A quartz cuff that looks like sea glass (or rock candy)
  • A breezy tunic in an ocean hue
  • This bright botanical rug

It’s the moment you’ve been waiting for: a brief recap of our Floridian vacation. I can never get enough oceanside lounging, especially when seashells are abound.

Florida 2012

The best place for shells was definitely along the rocky shore of the Blowing Rocks Preserve in Jupiter.

Florida 2012

Why, yes, I am holding a bag of shells. There are just a few photos of me actually looking up to appreciate the scenery. I was happier with my nose in the sand.

Florida 2012

Dave ventured much further out than I did.

Florida 2012

One final glimpse of the preserve before we continued on.

Florida 2012

Just south of the nature preserve was Palm Beach a.k.a. the first place I’ve ever felt poor. And yet, within 20 minutes of walking along Worth Avenue, we ducked into the Sunglass Hut and spent around $400 in the matter of minutes on two new pairs of shades.

Florida 2012

Although, I’m not the one with rich blood in the relationship. My white Coach aviators only cost $130.

Florida 2012

As expected, we spent plenty of time relaxing by the hotel pool (pictured) and the Atlantic.

Florida 2012

The beach entrance at the corner of A1A and Las Olas.

Florida 2012

The view is almost enough to convince me to move here – as long as my house is within a reasonable distance from the ocean.

Florida 2012

I spent entirely too much time watching the sandpipers dart in and out of the surf. They were just as excitable as children.

Florida 2012

A piece of coral that washed up on shore.

Florida 2012

One of the most interesting attractions in Fort Lauderdale is the Bonnet House Museum.

Florida 2012

Most of the lizards were camera shy, but Dave was able to get a close up of him.

Florida 2012

We went to Flamingo Gardens in Davie where I appropriately wore the flamingo-print skirt Dave gave me for Christmas. Here, I’m befriending an ibis.

Florida 2012

And, of course, Florida’s main attraction.

Our guest room wasn’t a design priority until la Our guest room wasn’t a design priority until late last year when we finally bought a bed, mattress, and a set of sheets. We used some of our own extra bedding (tucking in the generous overhang of our king blankets under the queen-sized mattress) and old bedside lamps from our bedroom: functional, but not quite the charming space I’d envisioned.

That started to change when I purchased the Popcorn Grid Coverlet from Schoolhouse — an item I’d been eyeing for years — plus some graphic floral pillows. Then came a bright blue round cushion and the sweetest Teig lamp, both generously gifted by Schoolhouse, and the room finally started to come together. Growing up in northern Wisconsin, lilacs always hi Growing up in northern Wisconsin, lilacs always hit peak bloom right around my birthday on May 30. My mom would fill a large crystal vase with fresh-cut stems, and their scent would waft through the house.

Now that I live a few hours south and lilac season wraps up earlier, the blooms actually mark the start of my birthday month.

• Spent quality time with my favorite cat

• Biked for Pacificos, chips and quac, and tacos at @bandit.tacos

• Loved how the rain collected on the Lady’s Mantle I planted last year

• Dipped my toes (quite literally) into this year’s mesh shoe trend

• Snapped a lot of Lily content

• Drove home with a new lilac in the passenger seat

I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog of travel photos before we book our next trip. First up, photos of the gothic York Minster. I’m not religious in the slightest but I can’t resist stunning architecture and the opportunity to climb hundreds of cathedral stairs for a city view. This one only had a single rest stop about halfway up the flight of 275 steps for a closeup view of the flying buttresses — and a waiver you had to sign before your ascent to promise you’re healthy enough to make it.
