7 Halloween Decorations to Use All Season

7 Halloween Decorations to Use All Season

ONE | TWO | THREE | FOUR | FIVE | SIX | SEVEN

I almost hate to breathe a word about Halloween and catapult us right to the end of October, but the undeniable crispness in the air along with my first seasonal sip of pumpkin beer the other night has put me in the mood for fall. And with autumn comes the desire to introduce some moodier decor into our home with a little bit of pre-Halloween shopping. It seems I’m not the only one, either. Retailers are pulling out the macabre merchandise earlier and earlier each year.

Aside from a few Target jack-o’-lanterns, I don’t have much in the way of Halloween-specific decorations — which is exactly what I prefer. I think Halloween decorations are best when they’re not limited to one spooky night of the year. I’ve rounded up seven seasonal decorations and serving pieces that are a little dark and a little moody, but would work just as well with your autumnal decor as they do on Oct. 31.

That pumpkin ale, however, is limited to a one-and-done endeavor.

The Weekend Guide

LEARN
In an increasingly digital — and photo heavy — age, there’s immense pressure to always work our best angles. There’s nothing wrong with that, as Garance Doré points out, but there’s also more to life.

DAYDREAM
We’re starting to look at houses, which is as nerve-wracking and intimidating as it is exciting! We actually found a small ’50s home that had been completely renovated. I’m crazy about it, but it doesn’t have a place to eat, aside from a tiny “eat-in kitchen” area that wouldn’t fit four adults. And, it really bothers me. It’s also $50,000 over what I wanted to spend. In the meantime, I’m stashing money away for the big day and daydreaming about home decor. I’m loving this inspiration post.

STEP
The New York Times goes inside the mind of Karl Lagerfeld.

SHAKE
Classic cocktails are long overdue for a comeback. Toss four ingredients into a shaker this weekend and take flight with an aviation.

SAVE
Loeffler Randall’s Friends & Family Sale is in full force (use code SQUADGOALS). I’ve wanted these star-studded sandals for years. Silver is the only color remaining in my size and I had my heart set on gold, so we’ll see if these finally make their way to my closet.

SWOON
This three-year-old will put your Halloween costume to shame. (She should find a Choupette lookalike and go as Karl next year.)

NOTABLE SALES
20% off full-price clothing at Anthropologie.
25% off at Kate Spade’s Friends & Family sale. (A fox hat is a reasonable purchase, right?)
Saks Fifth Avenue is offering 25% off most items and 20% off jewelry.

FIVE UNDER $55

EARLIER THIS WEEK
I’ve worn a windowpane mini dress on repeat. (Seriously, three times this week…)
This post skewed a bit Alice in Wonderland, but I like it.
A necklace that’s as versatile as a LBD.
Couldn’t pass up an opportunity to snap a photo on a cute floor.

BEAUTIFY
Give your blog’s brand a quick makeover with these easy fixes.

COMPARE
Now that Halloween candy is out in full force, you should read this comprehensive comparison guide to figure out which mini versions are better than their full-size counterparts.

WEAR
This season’s jewelry goes big, bold, and sculptural. Find inspiration in this slideshow.

SIP
I’m instituting an at-home cocktail hour once the weather turns cold enough to keep us indoors after work on Fridays. This autumn cocktail with apple and maple syrup sounds like the perfect way to kickoff the budding tradition.

LEARN
The first episode of Sex and the City premiered 17 years ago. (Holy crap, right?) Here’s how the series still holds up today — and how things have changed.

ESCAPE
Key West has never been on my list of must-visit places, until I came across this guide on Vogue.com.

FINDS UNDER $55

EARLIER THIS WEEK
A ’70-inspired dress I can’t stop wearing.
A beautiful, sweetly scented orange water candle.
The latest addition to my handbag collection.
A bit of plaid for fall.

Halloween Costume: Holly Golightly

October 31, 2012 by jessica Leave a Comment

Happy Halloween! This year I masqueraded as the sleepy version of Holly Golightly from Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Not only was it one of the easiest costumes I’ve pulled together, it was also one of my favorites. (Don’t worry, I wasn’t on the verge of public indecency – I’m wearing a pair of shorts too!)

Sartorial Summary
Eye Mask: c/o Mary Green // Shirt: eBay // Earrings: H&M (similar) // Bracelet: Ann Taylor LOFT // Shoes: Target

I am just the happiest! I keep looking at this bat I am just the happiest! I keep looking at this bathroom and thinking how lucky we are that we were able to do this! It wasn’t always easy to navigate the stressful moments, but the end result is worth it. I feel like I’m at a luxury hotel every time I shower! (And it sure beats showering with the spiders in our [basically unfinished] basement bathroom. It was like camping in our own home for the past six weeks — and I very much hate camping!)

More photos to come!

There will be a daily matchup on their Instagram stories each Thursday, Friday, Monday, and Tuesday now through April 5. Each vote in the daily face off is a chance to be one of five grand prize winners! My vote goes to Everybody's Favorite, an everything bagel stuffed with veggie cream cheese.

So long, farewell, auf Wiedersehen, goodbye ... to So long, farewell, auf Wiedersehen, goodbye ... to this bathroom. Demolition on our upstairs main bathroom starts today! I love old houses and #OldHouseThings, but this bathroom's prior renovation clearly isn't part of the original home -- nor was it done well. A leak from the bathtub into our kitchen on Easter 2020 kicked off our plans for the renovation and it's finally coming to fruition two years later. The prior damage wasn't caused by leaking pipes (although we just replaced all of the old galvanized pipes with PVC plumbing to futureproof the house); it was from water pooling on the edge of the tub after a shower and then spilling over the side onto the floor. As we discovered, the tub isn't level (nor is the toilet) which caused water to flow over. I'm sure we'll discover plenty of other water damage as our contractor's team starts pulling everything out and I'm so excited for the peace of mind that will come from getting everything in tip top shape.

Today is also the day that fixtures will be installed in the half bath! There's a short punch list of small things yet to do in that space, but the finished product is right around the corner!
