weekend-05212012

Weekend Snapshots:

  1. I spotted a sandpiper darting around a parking lot.
  2. Enjoying a Saturday morning cocktail at Merchant after the Farmers’ Market.
  3. At the Farmers’ Market, we picked up cheese curds, aged cheddar, hot sauce and a flower-shaped cookie.
  4. We visited the carnival on Sunday and I couldn’t resist another summer treat: cotton candy.
  5. The ferris wheel.
  6. Another sign of summer: the ice cream truck. (When I was little, my mom told me it was a “music truck.”)

Weekend Snapshots:

  1. First I saw a baby chipmunk and butterflies, then a bunny, and then ducks. It’s like Snow White’s forest here.
  2. Rediscovered an old Banana Republic clutch. I think this is from Deborah Lloyd’s reign, which would explain why it’s still charmingly perfect for spring.
  3. A new ring that reminds me of a thistle (c/o Oasap)
  4. Finally found a fuchsia clutch to wear to a wedding this coming weekend
  5. Craft Beer Week in Madison
  6. I just learned that my great-grandmother collected Lily of the Valley for her wedding bouquet.

Weekend Snapshots:

  1. I spent the weekend in northern Wisconsin, helping my parents pack up the house in anticipation of their upcoming move.
  2. A bit of Kate Spade brightened up the mailbox
  3. Each night, my dad and I had a 5 o’clock cocktail: a brandy old fashioned, Wisconsin’s signature drink.
  4. We rediscovered all sorts of treasures, like these earrings that belonged to my grandmother. (We also found a box of vintage ornaments left by the previous homeowner. Jackpot.)
  5. Reveling in spring
  6. Saying goodbye to my childhood home

I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog of travel photos before we book our next trip. First up, photos of the gothic York Minster. I’m not religious in the slightest but I can’t resist stunning architecture and the opportunity to climb hundreds of cathedral stairs for a city view. This one only had a single rest stop about halfway up the flight of 275 steps for a closeup view of the flying buttresses — and a waiver you had to sign before your ascent to promise you’re healthy enough to make it.

While it claims to be the most haunted place in Europe and is dubbed the city of a thousand ghosts, we only encountered the wire-mesh sculptures of Ghosts in the Gardens (@the_york_bid) and the family of souvenir ghosts I brought home from @yorkghostmerchants.
