If there’s one thing women are good at, its keeping menstrual products hidden. Here are some insights into why we’re ashamed to be seen with a tampon.

FOLLOW
Wally has received quite a bit of Internet attention lately and for good reason: he’s pretty much the cutest thing on Instagram. I’ve never wanted a pet rabbit as much as I do now. I just don’t think Bacon would play nice.

[spacer]

SAVE
Tory Burch’s resort collection is so good. It has many of the same artisanal elements as her most recent work, but with a bit more southwest textures and design elements.

[spacer]

LEARN
One of my majors was in English and I was always a bit surprised by our culture’s decision to sexualize the child in Nabokov’s Lolita. This essay explores the influence of Hollywood on our perception of the iconic novel.

[spacer]

BUY
Bath & Body Works is bringing back six classic fragrances from the 1990s for a limited time. Now’s your opportunity to smell like Juniper Breeze again. (I was more of a Freesia girl, myself.)

[spacer]

FIGHT
Sudara provides jobs for women in India to keep them out of slavery and sex trafficking. Pajama pants come in at $44, a small price to pay to be part of such a noble cause.

I didn’t grow up with a computer. I remember the first day I played Oregon Trail in school. I collected AOL free trial CDs that came in the mail and used them to decorate my bedroom walls. I passed real handwritten notes in class. Basically, this article sums up my adolescence.

[spacer]

CELEBRATE
It’s my birthday today! We’re visiting friends in the Twin Cities to celebrate the big three-two with ice cream cake, cocktails, and Cards Against Humanity.

BUY
I can’t tell you how much I adore Rachelle for letting me know about this dress. I was devastated (not an exaggeration) when the extra small, small, and medium didn’t work out in the original AG Jeans x Alexa Chung version of the dress. Even though the silhouette is supposed to be baggy, I didn’t look carefree and flirty. I looked frumpy. Not a look I’m going for at $200. This one, however, is perfect. There’s less fabric, so it hangs straight down instead of billowing out to the sides. Ignore the weird synthetic fabric blend on the website. It’s 100% cotton. I went with a size small.

LEARN
Amsterdam reduced flight noise from Schiphol Airport with land art.

This is the worst. I don’t know about you, but I’m in total agreement with this response. I mean, really, who wants VPL?! Normcore has gone too far.

BAKE
Oh my goodness, how amazing do these look?

TRY
I finally had the opportunity to give Rocksbox a whirl. My favorite piece in the box is this gorgeous Trina Turk necklace. I’ll post more about it and the other goodies I’m borrowing next week. If you’ve ever wanted to try Rocksbox, now’s the time. Get your first box free with code bedknobsandbaublesxoxo.

SEARCH
If your travel dates are flexible, there’s a new website called Skyscanner that allows you to search for the cheapest flights available. I haven’t played around with it too much yet, but it’s a great idea.

[spacer]

KNOW
Most Sex and the City articles are a little tiresome, but this one is worth the click. Spoiler: did you realize that the politician with the, um, fetish is Roger Sterling on Mad Men? Mind. Blown.

[spacer]

PLAN
First time in Paris with only 48 hours to spare? Check out this charming guide.

[spacer]

BUY
By now you know I’m almost exclusively a flats girl. My heart is going pitter-patter at the idea of made-to-measure ballet flats.

IN OTHER NEWS
We scrapped our Indianapolis plans after learning the Indy 500 is next weekend. We’re stopping at Upland Brewing Co. and then will continue on to Cincinnati. I also purchased the dress I mentioned last weekend. It’s absolutely adorable in person. There’s a slight high-low hem, which I normally shun, but it’s subtle and I actually appreciate the extra bum coverage with such a short dress. I will be wearing this in Cincinnati and on my birthday (May 30!) when we visit friends in the Twin Cities. There’s a lot of Midwestern road tripping in our future.

Even those of us with bills to pay can still afford to travel the world.

Pressing the walk button isn’t really helping.

FITNESS UPDATE
We’ve been back from vacation for one week and I’m only one pound heavier than when we left. I call that a huge success considering my diet consisted of pizza, lobster mac, and beer. I should probably start exercising again.

STUDY
‘Tis the season for weddings! If you’re planning nuptials, here are some guidelines to make the party a memorable one. Although, I’d skip the pig roast. (True Embarrassing Family Story: My late grandfather owned a tavern. When I was young, he decided to host a family reunion with–what else?–a pig roast. Long story short, the bar set aflame. The Hamm side sure knows how to party.)

[spacer]

CONSIDER
I don’t know if I could wear the same thing to work every day, but I appreciate the freedom that comes with it.

[spacer]

SMILE
The Mindy Project is one of my not-so-guilty pleasures. Behold, a bit of Mindy wisdom.

[spacer]

SHOP
Gray Malin has sweetened the pot with free framing for a limited time. Your walls are looking a little dull, right?

[spacer]

SIP
Not only do I want to drink this, I want to Instagram it.

[spacer]

SWOON
The Humane Society of Utah partnered with photographer Guinnevere Shuster to take photo booth-style portraits of pups up for adoption, capturing each dog’s quirky personality. It’s been a huge success with a 93.26% placement rate. (Really, click through, the photos are irresistible.)

[spacer]

FITNESS UPDATE
I’ve been sick with a terrible cold for about a week now. The only upside of feeling cruddy and losing my appetite is that I’m officially down 10 pounds since mid-January. The dress I wanted to wear to Dave’s sister’s wedding (today!) finally fits and I’m a lot less insecure about rocking a swimsuit in South Florida next week. I still have another 10 pounds I’d like to shed, but we’ll deal with that after vacation.

Our guest room wasn’t a design priority until la Our guest room wasn’t a design priority until late last year when we finally bought a bed, mattress, and a set of sheets. We used some of our own extra bedding (tucking in the generous overhang of our king blankets under the queen-sized mattress) and old bedside lamps from our bedroom: functional, but not quite the charming space I’d envisioned.

That started to change when I purchased the Popcorn Grid Coverlet from Schoolhouse — an item I’d been eyeing for years — plus some graphic floral pillows. Then came a bright blue round cushion and the sweetest Teig lamp, both generously gifted by Schoolhouse, and the room finally started to come together. Growing up in northern Wisconsin, lilacs always hi Growing up in northern Wisconsin, lilacs always hit peak bloom right around my birthday on May 30. My mom would fill a large crystal vase with fresh-cut stems, and their scent would waft through the house.

Now that I live a few hours south and lilac season wraps up earlier, the blooms actually mark the start of my birthday month.

I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog of travel photos before we book our next trip. First up, photos of the gothic York Minster. I’m not religious in the slightest but I can’t resist stunning architecture and the opportunity to climb hundreds of cathedral stairs for a city view. This one only had a single rest stop about halfway up the flight of 275 steps for a closeup view of the flying buttresses — and a waiver you had to sign before your ascent to promise you’re healthy enough to make it.
