25 Cocktail Essentials

December 8, 2015 by jessica 3 Comments

A bar cart has been at the top of my must-have list for a couple of years now, but I can’t bring myself to actually ask Santa for one — they’re so expensive! However, that hasn’t stopped me from adding plenty of mixology accessories to my wish list this year. I’m all about this pineapple ice bucket, a decanter that looks more expensive than it is, and these quirky cocktail napkins. I’d also love to add this koi vase to display cocktail stirrers.

Whether you’re buying gifts for a cocktail connoisseur or outfitting your own bar cart for the holidays, scroll through the slideshow to discover 25 of the chicest cocktail essentials this season.

The Weekend Guide

WATCH
It’s easy to go overboard with holiday spending. Here are a few tips to keep in mind as you continue shopping for yourself and loved ones this month.

BAKE
As far as I’m concerned, December means it’s time to add peppermint to just about every dessert. I’m anxious to make these indulgent brownies.

ADMIRE
This slideshow features 27 photos of the best White House decorations and memories.

SIP
Mulled wine is an easy — and festive — drink option.

WRAP
There’s never a shortage of elaborate gift wrap ideas around the holidays. You can keep your over-the-top designs. I love this elegant option with a simple bow and monogrammed ornament. Can’t find alphabet stickers in time? Try it with bakers twine in either red or gold and a jingle bell, both available at Target.

PLAY
Which one of your friends always tells the same damn story? Put it to a vote with “Who’s Most Likely To…” The game looks like a fantastic ice-breaker with a new group of people, as long as they have good senses of humor!

EARLIER THIS WEEK
Here’s what I spent my money on in November.
A few beloved snapshots from last month.
The eyelet dress I’d like to wear all of the time.
Stocking stuffers for $25 or less! (Dave uses the shoe cleaner on his sneakers.)
Anthro’s adorable holiday window.
15 of the best colorful faux fur scarves.

FIVE UNDER $55
Scroll through for this week’s best budget finds:

Mini Moments: November 2015

Mini Moments: November 2015

I can’t believe there are only 28 days left of the year! It seems like only yesterday that I penning my 2015 New Year’s resolutions (only to cast them aside shortly after), but I’m thrilled that it’s finally the holiday season. We went to Chicago last month for the opening weekend of the Christkindlmarket, which is becoming one of our favorite annual traditions. It was the perfect way to spend time together before the whirlwind of family and travel consume every weekend of December. Here are a few of my favorite snapshots from November:

  • Picked up a pair of furry ear muffs at Uniqlo. They’re ridiculously large, but they are warm. For $13, they were obviously coming home with me.
  • Stopped at a local antique mall and admired the tinsel trees filled with vintage ornaments.
  • Begged Bacon to move away from my photoshoot location for this post.
  • Kicked off the week with coffee and Julie Vos jewels. I’ve been wearing this necklace and ring on repeat. (Find the book here. The “darling” tray is sold out, but I’m also in love with this one.)
  • Stood 1,353 feet above Chicago at the Willis Tower. (Find my beloved loafers on sale here. They’re still full price here, but in more sizes.)
  • Enjoyed cocktails at Three Dots and a Dash in Chicago. I loved the tiki glasses so much that I had to buy the set to bring home with us. (Now, about that bar cart…)
  • Wore fabulous Miu Miu sunglasses. I borrowed them from Ditto, a subscription service to borrow sunglasses. It normally costs $24 per month, but you can sign up for one month free with code BEDKNOBS. Read more about Ditto’s Endless Eyewear.
  • Spent a fair amount of money on Christmas decorations and ornaments at the Christkindlmarket in Chicago.
  • Geared up for an incredible collaboration with Ben-Amun. Isn’t this Roman coin pendant amazing?

Our guest room wasn’t a design priority until la Our guest room wasn’t a design priority until late last year when we finally bought a bed, mattress, and a set of sheets. We used some of our own extra bedding (tucking in the generous overhang of our king blankets under the queen-sized mattress) and old bedside lamps from our bedroom: functional, but not quite the charming space I’d envisioned.

That started to change when I purchased the Popcorn Grid Coverlet from Schoolhouse — an item I’d been eyeing for years — plus some graphic floral pillows. Then came a bright blue round cushion and the sweetest Teig lamp, both generously gifted by Schoolhouse, and the room finally started to come together. Growing up in northern Wisconsin, lilacs always hi Growing up in northern Wisconsin, lilacs always hit peak bloom right around my birthday on May 30. My mom would fill a large crystal vase with fresh-cut stems, and their scent would waft through the house.

Now that I live a few hours south and lilac season wraps up earlier, the blooms actually mark the start of my birthday month.

I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog of travel photos before we book our next trip. First up, photos of the gothic York Minster. I’m not religious in the slightest but I can’t resist stunning architecture and the opportunity to climb hundreds of cathedral stairs for a city view. This one only had a single rest stop about halfway up the flight of 275 steps for a closeup view of the flying buttresses — and a waiver you had to sign before your ascent to promise you’re healthy enough to make it.
