Easy Breezy

Banana-Republic-Shirred-Top-1

To be honest, I didn’t expect to love this Banana Republic blouse as much as I do, given my penchant for bright colors and patterns, but it’s already one of my favorite pieces of the season–and an example of where I see my closet headed in the coming months. I feel most like myself in outfits with an easy silhouette, a short hemline, a blank canvas for jewelry, and a pair of flat shoes. I could never shirk brights completely, but there’s something to be said for the simplicity of a monochromatic ensemble perked up by large pieces of jewelry. I’m tempted to pick up the blouse in “dark saffron” too. It looks like a pretty transitional color for fall. It’s on sale for $40 through the end of the day, but be sure to size down. I went with a small, which has plenty of room for my not-so-small hips.

Weekend Guide

SERVE
These pulled pork and brie sliders look amazing. Make the salad and sangria featured in the same post and you’re ready for guests.

UNDERSTAND
Many of us try to get the most mileage out of our wardrobe, purchasing items that can be worn to the office and on the weekend. A new study suggests that the more we wear our clothes, the less likely we’ll continue to like them.

EAT
#LoveWins and Ben & Jerry’s is celebrating by renaming their cookie dough classic “I Dough, I Dough” for a limited time.

CELEBRATE
Happy National Sunglasses Day! Today is your annual reminder to protect your peepers from UV rays and an excuse to buy new sunglasses. These are my latest pair.

KNOW
Ever wonder what’s the best time to post on social media? Here you go.

LEARN
Gone are the days of staying in cookie cutter hotels abroad. Millennials are looking for a more authentic experience overseas and would prefer to stay in a small boutique hotel, an AirBnB, or a hostel rather than shell out cash for an American hotel chain. Marriott is looking to reinvent its properties with more local flavor in an attempt to capture the attention of–and the dollars from–a new generation of travelers.

Friday Five Under $55

If you buy one thing from today’s Five Under $55 post, make it the Equipment cami for $54. It’s 100% silk and all of the sizes are currently available.

Take 50% off your entire purchase at Ann Taylor today. This scarf reminds me of a print Tory Burch would create. It also comes in a pink colorway. Other favorites under the $55 threshold include this tunic and these flat sandals. If your budget is a bit more relaxed, this maxi dress is just begging to be taken on vacation. I’m also fond of the heel on these sandals in “wet stucco.”

Do you remember the Banana Republic blouse I posted earlier this week that’s on sale for $40 through June 29? It just arrived and it’s gorgeous. The material is perfectly lightweight and breezy for summer. When it’s worn with the shoulders up, it’s work appropriate, but it’s happy hour ready with the neckline shrugged down. It runs large. I was worried about the small fitting over my hips, but it’s just fine. I’ll try to post photos of it on Monday.

Tickled Pink

Line-And-Dot-Pleated-Dress-5

The air conditioner at our office has been on the fritz, giving me an excuse to wear my favorite summer dresses to work. No, they’re not the most professional, but it’s one of the perks of working in a casual office. I wore this pink frock yesterday, the first day I was able to go partial weight-bearing on my cast. I still have to use crutches, but at least I could set them aside and spend a few minutes upright on my own! It’s the little things. Three weeks down, three to go, and then I can start enjoying summer.

The Coveted

This week, I’m coveting:

  • A romper that will transition easily into fall.
  • Lace-up flats.
  • Lulu Frost’s horn earrings on sale for $53. This jewelry trend isn’t going away anytime soon, so  you may as well pick up some of these key pieces when they’re on sale.
  • The beloved bag of fashion lovers everywhere. As much as I’d love to pre-order one for the August shipment, I’m talking myself out of it. We’re thisclose to booking a trip instead.
  • These summer statement earrings from Kenneth Jay Lane. I highlighted them earlier this year, but now they’re a steal at just $18 on sale.
  • This shirred blouse from Banana Republic. It’s currently on promotion for just $40. You can shrug the neckline down to make it into an off-the-shoulder top. I purchased it in black earlier this week. I had a $50 Gap, Inc. Rewards coupon from my credit card and added this pair of shorts to reach the minimum.

I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog of travel photos before we book our next trip. First up, photos of the gothic York Minster. I’m not religious in the slightest but I can’t resist stunning architecture and the opportunity to climb hundreds of cathedral stairs for a city view. This one only had a single rest stop about halfway up the flight of 275 steps for a closeup view of the flying buttresses — and a waiver you had to sign before your ascent to promise you’re healthy enough to make it.
