The Weekend Guide 08.19.16

GAIN
Interior designers always have the inside scoop on the best places to scout out home decor. Here are seven shops to keep on your radar.

MEET
There’s a new class of CDFA Fashion Incubator designers. Meet them here. (I can’t pick a favorite!)

READ
Have you watched Stranger Things yet? We wrapped up the season last week. I didn’t love it the way some people did, but still really enjoyed the season and its nod to ’80s horror motifs.

SHOP
Tory Burch’s Private Sale is coming to a close today. I picked up a merino wool knit cap topped with a fluffy fur pom pom. Whether we want to admit it or not, it’ll be winter eventually. (How’s that for pessimism?)

TRAVEL
I’m all about visiting local markets when I’m overseas, so I’m bookmarking this one if we ever find ourselves in Paris.

SIP
This is probably the prettiest smoothie I’ve ever seen and it’s made with natural ingredients.

EARLIER THIS WEEK
Took part in a Clutter Cleanse Challenge.
Coveted more pre-fall pieces.
Wore a wooden watch.
Added a vintage snake necklace to my collection.
Floated away with this cutie.
Headed up north to visit my parents and will be attending the Tall Ships Festival in Duluth today!

PLUS, ENTER TO WIN!
There’s still time to enter to win a travel atomizer from Travalo valued at $50!

BAKE
The best thing about autumn weekends it that it gives you the excuse to cozy up inside with a hearty meal in the Crock-Pot and fresh bread in the oven. I’m pinning this Dutch tijgerbrood (tiger bread) recipe for later.

TRANSFORM
A coat of gold spray paint instantly transforms children’s alphabet magnets into something adults wouldn’t mind having on the fridge. A matte black or lacquered white would look fab too.

SHOP
Tory Burch’s late-summer and pre-fall pieces are finally on sale. Pool days are wrapping up, but this pretty bathing suit is worth purchasing for next year. I’m also in love with this paisley skirt. There are so many colors in the fabric that you could wear just about any hue on top. Throw on a turtleneck or a Tippi sweater and a pair of boots, and you’re all set for fall.

FOLLOW
Here’s a hilarious guide for making the most out of Instagram.

READ
There’s no shortage of guides available on identifying the most flattering silhouette for your shape, but does everyone actually agree on the rules. A member of the BuzzFeed staff visited five different retailers to find out.

REMOVE
I’ve pretty much stopped wearing glitter nail polish because it’s nearly impossible to get off. Elle tried five different methods to find the easiest way to remove that sparkle. (Here’s the link for the ombre manicure.)

EARLIER THIS WEEK
I found a colorful wall for my not-so-colorful outfit.
Five ways to wear a fall cape.
The two items I purchased in August (and thoughts on the things that didn’t work).
Five fall finds under $55.
My most cliche Instagram yet. (I’m loving your suggestions on what to add!)

Tory Burch: Extra 30% Off Sale

July 9, 2015 by jessica 5 Comments

ToryBurchSaleOnSale

ONE | TWO | THREE | FOUR | FIVE | SIX | SEVEN | EIGHT | NINE

Tory Burch is starting the weekend early with an extra 30% off sale items now through Monday with code EXTRA30. Now’s the time to scoop up all of those last-minute summer items or to pre-plan for any winter vacations. This pineapple beach shirt has been on my wish list for months (I bet it’d be cute half-tucked into cutoffs) and I’m absolutely smitten with this cotton tunic (I can’t resist a good blue and white pattern). If you’d rather shop for fall, this understated bag is a good choice in navy or in the tan pattern. This elegant wallet is a piece you’ll have for years (use it as a clutch when you don’t need to bring a set of keys).

For me? I’m seriously considering this bag in magenta, now that it’s in my price range and maybe a fun coin purse to corral Euro coins our next European adventure (to be booked soon!).

Really, though, the best thing about this sale is that everything is returnable if it doesn’t work out.

I am just the happiest! I keep looking at this bat I am just the happiest! I keep looking at this bathroom and thinking how lucky we are that we were able to do this! It wasn’t always easy to navigate the stressful moments, but the end result is worth it. I feel like I’m at a luxury hotel every time I shower! (And it sure beats showering with the spiders in our [basically unfinished] basement bathroom. It was like camping in our own home for the past six weeks — and I very much hate camping!)

More photos to come!

My NCAA bracket was busted within the first few ho My NCAA bracket was busted within the first few hours of the tournament, but there's a much more fun one to take part in: a bagel bracket with @bantambagels -- and you can win a month's supply of the winning flavor! There will be a daily matchup on their Instagram stories each Thursday, Friday, Monday, and Tuesday now through April 5. Each vote in the daily face off is a chance to be one of five grand prize winners! My vote goes to Everybody's Favorite, an everything bagel stuffed with veggie cream cheese.

So long, farewell, auf Wiedersehen, goodbye ... to So long, farewell, auf Wiedersehen, goodbye ... to this bathroom. Demolition on our upstairs main bathroom starts today! I love old houses and #OldHouseThings, but this bathroom's prior renovation clearly isn't part of the original home -- nor was it done well. A leak from the bathtub into our kitchen on Easter 2020 kicked off our plans for the renovation and it's finally coming to fruition two years later. The prior damage wasn't caused by leaking pipes (although we just replaced all of the old galvanized pipes with PVC plumbing to futureproof the house); it was from water pooling on the edge of the tub after a shower and then spilling over the side onto the floor. As we discovered, the tub isn't level (nor is the toilet) which caused water to flow over. I'm sure we'll discover plenty of other water damage as our contractor's team starts pulling everything out and I'm so excited for the peace of mind that will come from getting everything in tip top shape.

Today is also the day that fixtures will be installed in the half bath! There's a short punch list of small things yet to do in that space, but the finished product is right around the corner!
