Bows on Toes

February 9, 2015 by jessica 24 Comments

FebOutfit1v1

Any day above freezing is a day for coat-free outfit photos! And what better way to show off my favorite new skirt?! I couldn’t be happier with the windowpane design and the short, flippy style.

Now, let’s talk shoes. These darling block-heel pumps are from DUO, a new-to-me British brand that specializes in classic designs with customizable fits. If I hadn’t been enamored with the “Karin” style (give me a ’60s inspiration any day), I would have opted for a pair of boots. I have a hard time finding boots to fit my calves and the made-to-measure shafts are awfully tempting. I wear a standard size 7 and went with the European 37, even if it technically translates into a size 6.5. They fit perfectly, they’re comfortable, and the quality is outstanding.

Bauble of the Week

February 8, 2015 by jessica 1 Comment

Remember when I was so excited to see Tory Burch’s monkey earrings available for pre-order? They’re finally available along with this monkey necklace. It’s not cheap at $450, but it is a conversation piece you’ll  keep forever.  (That said, I’m still seriously considering the earrings.)

Weekend Guide

SMILE
When I’m having a particularly bad day, I’ll spend a few minutes looking at photos of cute animals to perk up. The Daily Otter was a delight to stumble across.

BUY
The windowpane skirt I mentioned in my recent “Budget Update” is finally online.

SNOOZE
Every piece from Iomoi is adorable, but the cocktail monkey sleep mask takes the cake.

DECORATE
I’ve been itching to give our apartment a makeover and the design inspiration from Gray Malin’s home with didn’t help curb that desire! I’ve got my eye on this coffee table (in raw mango), but I’d like to follow Gray’s lead with bright lacquer side tables. (Perhaps a vintage set so I can paint them myself.)

KNOW
Did you sign up for the “Ten Days or Whatever of Kwanzaa” holiday gift from Cards Against Humanity? Did you know that the private island was a real thing? From now on, I will brag about the land I own on Hawaii 2. All square foot of it.

REFINE
Step up your Instagram account with tips from interior designer Alessandra Branca.

FITNESS UPDATE
I thought I’d add my fitness success and struggles to this post as a follow up to this and a way to keep myself accountable. I only exercised three days this week, thanks to a work event, a basketball game, and a happy hour (excuses, excuses). I also let my Weight Watcher obligations slip. Not surprisingly, I only lost .4 pounds this week (2.5 total). On the bright side, I’m down a total of 1.5 inches from my hips in three weeks!

ValentineRiflePaperCoPostcards1

If there’s any chance you can snag these darling Rifle Paper Co. postcards in time for Valentine’s Day, do it. They’re pretty much the most charming things ever, especially with the bare-chested cupid cooing “Hey Girl!”

Currently Coveted

I’m sorry that it’s been so quiet around these parts this week. It seems that Sunday’s snowstorm put a damper on my spirits and my blog posting schedule! Venturing out to take photos just isn’t as fun as staying inside with board games (Pandemic, specifically). In any case, here’s what I’m smitten with this week:

  • J.Crew’s metallic pleated skirt. Midi skirts aren’t flattering on me, but this would be an easy piece to hem. It also comes in navy.
  • Shopbop just added a bunch of new items to its sale section, including beautiful pieces by Tibi. The flouncy hem on that tank is just too cute.
  • I’m growing tired of Eddie Borgo’s signature cone studs, but I love the designer’s fringe pieces this season. (Dave’s sister is getting married in April and I think the earrings would be perfect for the dress I’m planning to wear.)
  • These ultra girly Kate Spade pumps are also from Shopbop’s sale section. They also come in black and most sizes are available. (The black pair would look so good with slim cigarette pants.)
  • Has anyone tried the latest from Clinique?
  • I don’t have anything fancy to dress up for, but I’d totally buy this skirt if I did.
  • Not Pictured: I had no idea my recent Instagram would become my most-liked photo ever. (I even exclaimed to Dave that “this must be how popular bloggers feel!”) You can snag the phone case here.

Finishing our guest room has been a focus of ours Finishing our guest room has been a focus of ours this year, and the cute Teig Lamp from Schoolhouse is such a charming addition to the space. It’s named for the German word for “dough,” which is perfect for its soft, petite shape.

Find this and the other Schoolhouse items we’re using in the space here: https://www.shopltk.com/explore/bedknobsandbaubles/posts/e01ae8c9-38af-11f0-b5c2-0242ac11000b

I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog of travel photos before we book our next trip. First up, photos of the gothic York Minster. I’m not religious in the slightest but I can’t resist stunning architecture and the opportunity to climb hundreds of cathedral stairs for a city view. This one only had a single rest stop about halfway up the flight of 275 steps for a closeup view of the flying buttresses — and a waiver you had to sign before your ascent to promise you’re healthy enough to make it.
