Snapshot

February 12, 2013 by jessica Leave a Comment

Every year, I use a portion of my tax return to splurge on a sartorial item I wouldn’t otherwise purchase. The first year was a DVF wrap dress, the next was a YSL arty ring (back when it was still $195), then a Rebecca Minkoff MAC bag, followed by two years of Kate Spade “Karolina” pumps. I’ve never regretted any of these investment pieces and I’m especially thrilled with this year’s item: a pair of timeless Ferragamo “Varina” flats.

Bauble of the Week

February 10, 2013 by jessica Leave a Comment

Okay, so I might not be dealing with Nemo’s wrath, but Wisconsin has had its fair share of snow this season and I’m more than ready for spring. Wouldn’t these Karry’O earrings be a lovely way to usher in warm weather?

And the winner is… Congratulations to Stephanie B. for winning the Stella Valle necklace! Thanks again to everyone for entering and making these giveaways possible!

Currently Coveting

February 7, 2013 by jessica Leave a Comment

Right now, I’m coveting:

  • The feminine details of the Dior Couture show, especially this photo
  • A splash of summery turquoise
  • Snow white manicures, even if it reminds me of painting my nails with Wite-Out in middle school. Here’s an Instagram photo of my attempt.
  • Jo Malone’s “Sugar & Spice” collection set to debut in March (but I’m also just a sucker for great packaging)
  • Classic Ferragamo flats in “lava” that will probably be my 2013 tax return splurge
  • This bar cart
  • Structured shorts – I ordered these in “neon rose,” but I’m between sizes and couldn’t make them work. I loved the fabric, though.
  • These darling teeny tiny studs in green quartz

5 Steps to the Perfect Stack

July 18, 2012 by jessica Leave a Comment

The perfect stack of bracelets should be eclectic, appear nonchalant, and have the right ratio of statement-makers to delicate adornments. Achieve the perfect mix by combining something:

  1. Chunky – Ground your look with a bold bracelet. Try a traditional chain link version or one with a playful charm.
  2. Colorful – This look is about being playful. A healthy of dose of color from a nautical rope or a vintage-esque bracelet keeps it from getting too serious.
  3. Practical – Keep the phone in your purse. A bold or elegant watch is a classier way to check the time.
  4. Delicate – Offset the statement jewels with a pretty chain or bangle set.
  5. Unexpected – Add a little whimsy to your wrist with a conversation piece. A pair of lion heads or bright-colored leather does the trick.

Get the Look

July 6, 2012 by jessica Leave a Comment

getthelook2

I’ve found that I’m awfully good at adding inspirational images to Pinterest, but not great at doing anything with them after. (I think I’ve only tried one pinned recipe.) Instead of letting that style board go to waste, let’s get the look:

  1. Shift Dress, J.Crew, $118
  2. Daisy Studs, Kate Spade, $58
  3. Flower Bracelet, Nadri, $138
  4. Lipstick, Dior Addict, $30
  5. Daisy Pearl Clutch, Coast, $95

Have you pinned any great style images that you’d like to get the look for? Let me know and I just might feature it next!

I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog of travel photos before we book our next trip. First up, photos of the gothic York Minster. I’m not religious in the slightest but I can’t resist stunning architecture and the opportunity to climb hundreds of cathedral stairs for a city view. This one only had a single rest stop about halfway up the flight of 275 steps for a closeup view of the flying buttresses — and a waiver you had to sign before your ascent to promise you’re healthy enough to make it.

While it claims to be the most haunted place in Europe and is dubbed the city of a thousand ghosts, we only encountered the wire-mesh sculptures of Ghosts in the Gardens (@the_york_bid) and the family of souvenir ghosts I brought home from @yorkghostmerchants.
