How good is this paint treatment?!

Pinterest is putting the spotlight on women-owned small businesses in time for Women’s History Month.

Loving this pink tunic for spring. (I just ordered it and will report back when it arrives!)

Designing restaurants for a post-COVID world.

Reconciling COVID style with the clothes worn before the pandemic struck.

I’m into this little lamp.

On the Right Foot: Colorful Glasses, Instagram Photo Dumps, an Unexpectedly Chic Swimsuit Hue & More!

February 22, 2021 by jessica Leave a Comment

How fun are these ripple glasses by Sophie Lou Jacobsen? They’re a bit expensive at $25 each, but I could see using one as a bud vase to brighten up your work-from-home desk!

My new favorite Instagram account: @cats_of_brutalism.

Have you taken part in the Instagram photo dump trend?

Inside the pizza culture of Naples.

We have a new pandemic obsession ’round these parts: at-home espresso! We talked about getting an espresso machine for awhile now, but didn’t want to spend a ludicrous amount of money and, yet, didn’t want something as simple as a Nespresso machine. Dave did a lot of research and we opted for the Breville Bambino Plus (in stock here), which has an attached milk frother. It sounds like a robust introductory machine that will last us several years. Of course, my old $40 coffee grinder isn’t going to cut it anymore and now we need to upgrade that before our espresso adventure can truly commence. I’m pretty excited about our in-home café experience, though! If you have any tips, please share!

I enjoyed Emily’s deep-dive into the Shaker style.

I’m tempted to pick up a collection of colorful, sculptural glass candle holders.

The CDFA launched Impact, a talent directory for Black and brown creatives.

The “dark twig” color of this swimsuit is unexpected and yet undeniably chic.

The history of Singapore’s colorful shop-houses.

In case you missed it:

  • A midday pick-me-up.
  • The Danish-designed watch brand to have on your radar.
  • We’ve had Oliver for an entire year now!

On the Right Foot: Valentine’s Day Cocktail, Zack Morris is Trash, Gossip Shortages & More!

February 8, 2021 by jessica Leave a Comment

Quarantine is wreaking havoc on your body.

This essay from Vogue’s “Growing Up in Style” series is a sweet commentary on the transformative power of clothing.

I adore these graphic black-and-white striped pots.

The pretty pink hue of a classic Clover Club cocktail makes it perfect for Valentine’s Day!

We watched the Saved by the Bell reboot the other week, which then led us down an internet rabbit hole about how Zack Morris is Trash.

Amsterdam is looking to put a stop to weed-seeking tourism.

You can use code “LOVE” to save 20% on Jenny Walton’s site. I’m considering these cuties.

The pandemic has caused a gossip shortage.

Loving this plaid raincoat.

I’m making Instant Pot carnitas for dinner this week.

In case you missed it:

  • Last week’s “The Coveted” is essentially my spring wish list. (I especially love the gingham purse that reminds me of vintage lawn chairs.)
  • The items I bought and loved at the end of December and throughout January.
  • Not a bad place to spend a snow day.

Inside Jenna Lyons’ closet. And if anyone knows where the lamp is from in this image (above), please let me know! It has such a great shape!

And while we’re on the topic of lamps, how great is this one? It’s like a piece of art.

The Mayor of Paris has unveiled a €250 million plan to transform the Champs-Élysées into an “extraordinary garden.”

I picked up this super-soft pajama set over the weekend at Target.

Why women wore pearls to support Kamala Harris on Inauguration Day.

The pandemic has brought the return of the homemaker.

Love these lace-up sandals!

Department stores have a long history of racist exclusion.

The unlikely connection between wellness influencers and pro-Trump rioters.

Six houseplant mistakes to avoid this winter.

In case you missed it:

  • Fourteen finds for Valentine’s Day.

Have a wonderful week!

One Month Until Valentine’s Day: 14 Festive Finds

January 14, 2021 by jessica Leave a Comment

14 Festive Finds for Valentine's Day

In we’re not big on celebrating Valentine’s Day around here. We typically order in and share a special Belgian beer from our cellar that we picked up on our travels. However, that’s not to say that I don’t appreciate a few subtle festive touches in anticipation and celebration of February 14. Below, you’ll find some of my favorite items for decorating and celebrating, along with a few gift ideas.

  1. Your Valentine’s cocktail will be even more special when served in this elegant coupe. (It’s backordered until the beginning of February, so don’t delay!)
  2. Add a single stem to these asymmetrical vases in the prettiest pale pink.
  3. Keep your pout supple with this lip mask.
  4. A swirled glass serving platter in a romantic shade of pink.
  5. Candles are an absolute must. Opt for a designer-approved holder.
  6. Not into overly romantic tablescapes? How about bold, colorful stemware and double old-fashioned glasses?
  7. Darling trinket trays. The “Just Between Us” set is my favorite.
  8. If plants are their (or your!) love language, try this.
  9. Scroll through your camera rolls and print off some of your favorite memories together. We keep our prints in a bowl on the coffee table!
  10. Such a cute pair of pajama shorts!
  11. Looking to splurge? I gave Dave a Solo Stove outdoor fire pit for Christmas and it’s pretty fun!
  12. This doormat is such a charmingly unexpected way to decorate for the holiday!
  13. I’m not one to wear heart-shaped jewelry, but I’d make an exception for these.
  14. Mwah!

Our guest room wasn’t a design priority until la Our guest room wasn’t a design priority until late last year when we finally bought a bed, mattress, and a set of sheets. We used some of our own extra bedding (tucking in the generous overhang of our king blankets under the queen-sized mattress) and old bedside lamps from our bedroom: functional, but not quite the charming space I’d envisioned.

That started to change when I purchased the Popcorn Grid Coverlet from Schoolhouse — an item I’d been eyeing for years — plus some graphic floral pillows. Then came a bright blue round cushion and the sweetest Teig lamp, both generously gifted by Schoolhouse, and the room finally started to come together. Growing up in northern Wisconsin, lilacs always hi Growing up in northern Wisconsin, lilacs always hit peak bloom right around my birthday on May 30. My mom would fill a large crystal vase with fresh-cut stems, and their scent would waft through the house.

Now that I live a few hours south and lilac season wraps up earlier, the blooms actually mark the start of my birthday month.

I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog of travel photos before we book our next trip. First up, photos of the gothic York Minster. I’m not religious in the slightest but I can’t resist stunning architecture and the opportunity to climb hundreds of cathedral stairs for a city view. This one only had a single rest stop about halfway up the flight of 275 steps for a closeup view of the flying buttresses — and a waiver you had to sign before your ascent to promise you’re healthy enough to make it.
