Love Delicate Layered Jewelry? Here’s the Brand You Need to Know! (Plus, a Discount Code!)

April 23, 2021 by jessica Leave a Comment

If you’re a longtime reader, you know that I my love of jewelry runs deep. I am a self-proclaimed magpie and I can’t resist adding new pieces to my collection regularly. Lately I’ve been drawn to classic, elegant pieces that are subtle and sophisticated on their own, but can be layered with statement-making gems.

I was recently introduced to a brand called Aurelie GI that specializes in those wear-with-everything pieces. It’s a U.S.-based jeweler that offers 14K gold pieces handcrafted with recycled precious metals. (Whenever we can marry style with sustainability, I’m on board!) The collection includes rings, earrings (both pairs and singles), bracelets, necklaces, and pendants (like this sweet “Mama” pendant just in time for Mother’s Day); and there are items studded with diamonds and semiprecious stones.

I chose the Effie oval band for its unique organic design and the textured Regalia band. As you’ll see below, they’re perfect for layering with one another or wearing on different fingers while mixing and matching with other jewelry items in your collection. If color is more your speed, the brand also has beautiful turquoise items like this stacking ring.

I’ve been wearing these rings nearly each day since they arrived three weeks ago and I’m impressed with the quality. I had a thin gold band years ago and it didn’t take much to bend it out of shape. These, however, are solid and the quality does support the price point.

And, while we’re on the topic of price, you can save 20% with code Jessica20 through the end of 2021!

Dress: Anthropologie (true to size; I’m wearing a medium)
Bag: Gucci (see what fits inside here)
Sneakers: Nike (also available here)
Rings: c/o Aurelie Gi (this one and this one) – Plus, save 20% with code Jessica20 through Dec. 31, 2021!
Bracelet: vintage (I adore this bracelet, though!)

On the Right Foot: An Inspiring House Tour, “Clean” Beauty, A Swing Dress to Love & More!

April 19, 2021 by jessica Leave a Comment

We spent a couple of days in Chicago last week to attend the Immersive Van Gogh exhibit I bought tickets to last fall — and clearly I was very excited to be in a hotel again after more than a year! (We stayed at the new 21c property.) I’ll share a recap of our 48 hours in the city next week!

I don’t think I’ve ever been as inspired by a house tour before!

If you often find yourself with a partially used can of tomato paste, it’s time to try tomato powder. I’m going to try this one the next time I need to place a spice order.

I’m looking forward to the latest installment of Target’s “Designer Dress Collection,” set to launch this spring.

The messy truth of clean beauty.

I didn’t realize you could paint a stand mixer!

I’m long overdue for a closet cleanout. Here are seven questions to ask when going through your wardrobe.

Love food photography? I adore Mia’s account for the pretty photos and the photography tips.

I tried this dress on last week and loved it! The fabric is substantial, it’s lined, there are pockets, and the swingy silhouette is made for girls with wide hips! I just wasn’t keen on the chartreuse hue that was available in store. I think I’m going to order it in that pretty warm cocoa color.

Carrot cake meets coffee cake.

In case you missed it:

  • Finally getting back into the swing of outfit snapshots again.
  • Loved this art installation!

On the Right Foot: Struggling with Small Talk, a Makeshift Jumpsuit, the Hottest Shade of Green & More!

April 5, 2021 by jessica Leave a Comment

The CDC cleared fully vaccinated people for travel so long as safety precautions remain in place, and we decided to book a trip to Charleston for the end of the month. (Trust me, I definitely recognize the privilege of being able to take a vacation during a pandemic.) We spent time researching to make sure we can still socially distance and dine outdoors in the city, even if current data suggests that vaccinated people can’t carry or spread the virus. I don’t have much of a desire to be indoors anyway after a long Wisconsin winter and am eager for warm-weather strolls, al fresco dining, and taking photos of the city’s architecture.

Why people keep asking which vaccine you got.

I ordered this dress a couple of weeks ago and it finally arrived over the weekend. It was well worth the wait as it’s the best Old Navy item I’ve purchased in a long time. It’s a linen-blend that feels substantial. It runs true to size.

This coverup looks like it could double as a breezy day dress!

Such a sweet bathroom remodel.

The trendiest shade of green right now.

I just ordered this top and these pants to wear together. It’ll have the effect of a jumpsuit, but without the bathroom acrobatics.

Make your second pandemic birthday better than the first!

Things I Bought & Loved: March 2021

March 31, 2021 by jessica Leave a Comment

March 2021 Purchases

As I was putting together this post, I was pleased at how minimally I shopped in March — only to realize that it’s because my other orders haven’t yet arrived! (Or just got lost in the mail entirely, as was the case of an Old Navy order that included the pink now-sold-out blouse in this post.) The one I’m most excited about is this lamp! It’s either going to serve as an entry lamp, or I’ll spring for a second and use them as our bedside lamps. Either way, I can’t wait for it to arrive!

IN THE WARDROBE
See all of this year’s sartorial additions here.

  • J.Crew ‘Seaside’ linen-blend short in desert sand – I bought a pair of these last year in loden green and they became my most-worn shorts last summer. They have a three-inch inseam, but they don’t seem that short since they’re meant to have a relaxed fit.
  • Anthropologie ‘Ruth’ mini sweater dress – This dress is so flattering! It has a stretchy nipped-in waist that you can adjust to the most flattering part of your body and it has great movement. It’s as cute with sneakers as it is with ballet flats. It’ll definitely become a workplace staple once offices reopen. I found that it ran true to size.
  • Target pajama set – I don’t normally add pajamas to these posts, but these are too cute not to mention. They’re just $20 and give Soma’s Cool Nights collection a run for its money. Plus, the shorts have pockets!
  • Lele Sadoughi small crystal lily earrings in tortoise – I found these on the jeweler’s site earlier in the month for just $39 and figured they were a no-brainer since most of my spring and summer wardrobe is leaning toward the neutral side with plenty of browns, blacks, and whites.

AROUND THE HOUSE

  • Schoolhouse brass coasters – We already have a set of these, but since one permanent lives in my work-from-home space and one in Dave’s, we added another set to the living room. If you prefer perpetually shiny brass, these aren’t for you. But if you’re a fan of patina, consider buying a set.
  • Target striped throw pillows in black and cream – I purchased a set of linen striped throw pillows last spring for our living room, but they get so wrinkly that they’re better suited for the bed where they’re not being squished constantly. I went with these $20 throws as substitutes. They have a zipped opening for the insert, which is rare at that price point. The tags are also inside the cover, rather than being stitched on the outside, so you don’t have those stupid pieces of paper on the edge of your pillow that so many cheap pillows have. (They always look bad no matter how closely you cut them!)

I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog of travel photos before we book our next trip. First up, photos of the gothic York Minster. I’m not religious in the slightest but I can’t resist stunning architecture and the opportunity to climb hundreds of cathedral stairs for a city view. This one only had a single rest stop about halfway up the flight of 275 steps for a closeup view of the flying buttresses — and a waiver you had to sign before your ascent to promise you’re healthy enough to make it.
