On the Right Foot: A Must-Have Collab, This Summer’s Hottest Color, Dark Tile in the Kitchen & More!

June 6, 2022 by jessica Leave a Comment

My dwarf mock orange exploded in fluffy white blossoms last week!

In case you missed it, I shared an update on how our front porch stain is holding up after two years and a roundup of some seaside-inspired items. Coming up this week: the main bathroom reveal on Wednesday and how much it cost on Friday.

Love the use of dark tile in this home tour.

Did you know that Nordstrom has a service where you can buy split-shoe sizes or a single shoe if needed? They really do have the best customer service.

Landlords are embarrassed to be called landlords.

The latest Birkenstock collaboration is so good. There’s a double-strap style and a T-strap option.

On the menu this week: grilled chicken thighs with a lemongrass glaze and sticky ginger sesame chicken meatballs.

Cobalt blue is this season’s must-have color.

I bought this Target dress over the weekend.

If your dream destination is too expensive, here are some less expensive alternatives.

Flared leggings are back. (I’ll be sitting this one out.)

A super cute, on-sale basket bag for just $50.

On the Right Foot: History of Subway Tile, iPhone’s Built-in Plant ID, Used Hotel Soap Gets Second Life & More!

We spent the long weekend celebrating my birthday with bike rides, dining out, antiquing, and an overnight stay in Milwaukee at the Iron Horse. It was a wonderful way to ring in year thirty-nine and I’m excited to see what the next year brings!

And now that I’m on the cusp of what will likely be my best decade ever (or at least I’m channeling that energy), there are two choices that keep a midlife crisis at bay.

On the blog last week: what I bought and loved this month, and the main bathroom progress report part three.

The history of subway tile.

What happens to used hotel soaps.

With iOS 15, your iPhone can identify plants you have on your camera roll.

Bob Mackie was not thrilled that Kim Kardashian wore the dress he sketched for Marilyn Monroe.

AI is being used to predict what you’ll order at a restaurant.

How to paint a dresser and avoid a streaky finish.

I’m eyeing this pair of beautiful earrings.

Have a wonderful week!

On the Right Foot: An Eye-Catching Cocktail Ring, the TV Show I’m Loving, a Chip Dip to Make & More!

Happy Monday! Work has been incredibly busy this month with our largest event of the year, which took place last week. Between juggling that and the home stretch of our bathroom renovations, I hadn’t been able to carve out time to pop in here — but I’m back now and incredibly excited to get back into the blogging swing of things! So, hello again!

In case you missed it, here’s a sneak peek at the main bathroom! I have another progress post in the works for later this week and I’ll share the reveal soon!

I’m going to buy myself a food processor just so I can make this whipped feta and charred scallion dip.

I’ve been enjoying Emily Henderson’s new book.

A new-to-me blog that I absolutely adore.

80% of Americans who move do so in the summer. If you’re moving to a new space, here are tips to keep yourself organized when you pack.

Highlights from the Chelsea Flower Show.

Trees in your neighborhood are more beneficial than you may realize.

Hacks is back for another season and you should definitely add it to your must-see TV schedule.

We planted rhubarb last year and can finally harvest it now that the plant had a year to establish its roots. I’m looking for all of the rhubarb recipes including a crumble-topped pie.

Such a fun cocktail ring!

On the Right Foot: Martinis are Back, Cheerful Summer Earrings, Surprising Uses for Lemon Juice, & More!

May 2, 2022 by jessica Leave a Comment

I went to the botanical gardens yesterday to see what was in bloom and get inspiration for our own yard. I fell in love with the pretty white and blue flowers of the puschkinia plant and the dense ground cover it provides in early spring. I’ll be planting some blubs in the fall.

A roundup of items I have my eye on. I actually ordered the bench for our bedroom. I signed up for restock notifications months ago and immediately bought it once it came back.

On the Right Foot: When to Replace Your Bakeware, “It” Plants, A Great Dress for the Office, & More!

April 25, 2022 by jessica Leave a Comment

Holy moly, friends, I didn’t mean to go dark for most of April! We’ve been knee-deep in our bathroom renovation (and going over budget), had some computer hiccups that kept me away from the blog, and it’s my busiest time of the year at work. I’m hoping to get back into the swing of things again soon!

I adore this home tour!

The difference between an interior “decorator” and “designer” — and the history of the latter.

I just ordered this work-appropriate faux wrap dress in an easy to wear jersey fabric.

Emily Henderson’s team reviewed popular styles from Summersalt. I loved seeing how the styles look on different body types and I’m now tempted to order this one in olive!

It’s so nice to be home after a whirlwind week. It’s so nice to be home after a whirlwind week. We flew out to Philadelphia last Friday for a few days of exploring. It was our first time in the City of Brotherly Love and we loved every minute of it from the architecture to the restaurants, and most of all: the welcoming and friendly people. After that, we had one night at home before a flight to Denver to celebrate my cousin’s wedding. We got back to Madison late last night and have spent the day puttering around the house, getting caught up on laundry, grocery shopping, harvesting the season’s first tomatoes from the garden, and admiring just how much the hydrangeas have grown in the course of a week.
I always get a kick out of comparing views of our I always get a kick out of comparing views of our home today to the photos I took during our home inspection. (Swipe to see our main bedroom then!) While I knew the house had potential, it was hard to look past some of the owner’s “design” choices. Though, it looks like the room was destined to have a warm-toned quilt. 😂

P.S. @schoolhouse just released new colors of their popular Stillwater Floral Quilt!

And, for those interested, I’ve linked my bedroom items here: https://liketk.it/5iC8R

It also inadvertently became the weekend I made Dave eat a cheeseburger every day, between @redhotranchchicago, @eatmottst, and @smallcheval. There are worst ways to spend a weekend.

Our guest room wasn’t a design priority until la Our guest room wasn’t a design priority until late last year when we finally bought a bed, mattress, and a set of sheets. We used some of our own extra bedding (tucking in the generous overhang of our king blankets under the queen-sized mattress) and old bedside lamps from our bedroom: functional, but not quite the charming space I’d envisioned.

That started to change when I purchased the Popcorn Grid Coverlet from Schoolhouse — an item I’d been eyeing for years — plus some graphic floral pillows. Then came a bright blue round cushion and the sweetest Teig lamp, both generously gifted by Schoolhouse, and the room finally started to come together. Growing up in northern Wisconsin, lilacs always hi Growing up in northern Wisconsin, lilacs always hit peak bloom right around my birthday on May 30. My mom would fill a large crystal vase with fresh-cut stems, and their scent would waft through the house.

Now that I live a few hours south and lilac season wraps up earlier, the blooms actually mark the start of my birthday month.
