On the Right Foot: The Battiest Love is Blind Cast Member, Airport Cocktails, Why You Need to Check Your Avocado’s Origin & More!

Cocktail Glasses | Cocktail Picks

On Friday, we celebrated the end of our first week renovating — and let me tell you that it was a doozy. It wasn’t so much an issue with the project; that went smoothly enough. We decided to go ahead and replace all of our antiquated plumbing with new PVC pipes. The old galvanized pipes will continue to corrode as time goes on, so it made sense to add that to the scope of our project while the walls were open. The kicker was that I tested positive for COVID on Tuesday despite being vaxxed and boosted. Talk about the worst timing! I’m grateful that the contractor’s team was still willing to do the work so long as Dave and I stayed quarantined upstairs. (We started the renovation with our first floor powder room.) The plumbing is being finished today and the inspector comes tomorrow, so we can close up the walls and get to the pretty stuff once that’s signed off on!

The meanings behind James Abbott McNeill Whistler’s masterpiece The White Girl.

In unexpected trends, influencers are taking their dolls to the American Girl Cafe. How do I get in on that action? #TeamMolly

A few things that caught my eye recently.

The romance of drinking at an airport bar. (Airport drinking is undoubtedly my top not-so-guilty pleasure.)

No, avocados won’t keep you from buying a home, but avocado farms may be linked to deforestation — all the more reason to make sure your avocados are ethically farmed.

Lilac and red are one of my favorite color combinations, which has put this blouse at the top of my wish list. Those unexpected cutout details are just icing on the cake!

This is neat: hard-to-recycle plastics are now being made into “concrete” blocks.

So true.

Are you watching season two of Love is Blind? It’s batty. And this spoiler-filled recap is too good not to share.

Have a fun week!

Happy Monday — and a very happy Valentine’s Day! (Here’s some history of the holiday for those interested.)

Our bathroom remodels begin tomorrow and I can’t begin to tell you how excited I am to see it all come together. We’re beginning with the powder room and then moving to the main bathroom. See the “before” photos of the main bathroom here and the product list for the renovation here.

For those who love malachite, here’s a fabulous cocktail ring.

The opening photo is from this gorgeous home tour.

How Gucci’s bamboo-handled bag came to be.

I ordered the gingham coat that I featured in a recent post. It’s beautiful! Trust the “True Fit” recommendation; it was spot-on for me.

Can you change your personality in three months?

I enjoyed this look back at Betty Davis’ wardrobe philosophy.

I don’t need this quilt, but I very much want this quilt.

This lemon poppy seed loaf with a yogurt glaze looks divine!

Have a wonderful week!

On the Right Foot: Rewiring a Vintage Lamp, Potato Milk, Kimchi Cream Cheese Dip & More!

February 7, 2022 by jessica Leave a Comment

Our product selections (above) for the powder room are coming together! Here are the links for the tile (bought locally), faucet, light fixture, and hand towel. (We’re using these shades for the sconce.) Work begins on Feb. 15 and once the powder room is done, we’ll start work on the main bathroom. I can’t wait!

I’m drawn to homes with neutral colors, but with a variety of textures and accessories that keep it from being boring. This tour is worth a scroll.

Kimchi meets cream cheese in a dip that I have to make soon!

I pre-ordered Emily Henderson’s upcoming book.

The latest list of covetable finds. I’m crushing on that coat!

It looks like potatoes are the next source of non-dairy milk.

Sarah Jessica Parker designed the heels in And Just Like That.

It gives me immense joy that there’s a cat in the White House again. I wrote to the Clinton’s cat Socks as a kid and received an “autographed” photo as a reply. I’m tempted to send a letter to Willow on Oliver’s behalf.

Dusting off your passport in the next year or two? Consider adding Lisbon to your travel plans with my list of recommendations.

It’s so nice to be home after a whirlwind week. It’s so nice to be home after a whirlwind week. We flew out to Philadelphia last Friday for a few days of exploring. It was our first time in the City of Brotherly Love and we loved every minute of it from the architecture to the restaurants, and most of all: the welcoming and friendly people. After that, we had one night at home before a flight to Denver to celebrate my cousin’s wedding. We got back to Madison late last night and have spent the day puttering around the house, getting caught up on laundry, grocery shopping, harvesting the season’s first tomatoes from the garden, and admiring just how much the hydrangeas have grown in the course of a week.
I always get a kick out of comparing views of our I always get a kick out of comparing views of our home today to the photos I took during our home inspection. (Swipe to see our main bedroom then!) While I knew the house had potential, it was hard to look past some of the owner’s “design” choices. Though, it looks like the room was destined to have a warm-toned quilt. 😂

P.S. @schoolhouse just released new colors of their popular Stillwater Floral Quilt!

And, for those interested, I’ve linked my bedroom items here: https://liketk.it/5iC8R

It also inadvertently became the weekend I made Dave eat a cheeseburger every day, between @redhotranchchicago, @eatmottst, and @smallcheval. There are worst ways to spend a weekend.

Our guest room wasn’t a design priority until la Our guest room wasn’t a design priority until late last year when we finally bought a bed, mattress, and a set of sheets. We used some of our own extra bedding (tucking in the generous overhang of our king blankets under the queen-sized mattress) and old bedside lamps from our bedroom: functional, but not quite the charming space I’d envisioned.

That started to change when I purchased the Popcorn Grid Coverlet from Schoolhouse — an item I’d been eyeing for years — plus some graphic floral pillows. Then came a bright blue round cushion and the sweetest Teig lamp, both generously gifted by Schoolhouse, and the room finally started to come together. Growing up in northern Wisconsin, lilacs always hi Growing up in northern Wisconsin, lilacs always hit peak bloom right around my birthday on May 30. My mom would fill a large crystal vase with fresh-cut stems, and their scent would waft through the house.

Now that I live a few hours south and lilac season wraps up earlier, the blooms actually mark the start of my birthday month.
