Things I Bought & Loved Recently + $20 Discount to East Fork Pottery

May 18, 2023 by jessica Leave a Comment

You know how sometimes the shopping gods smile down on you? That was the past six weeks for me. It felt like everything I tried on was a home run and I had no qualms about adding them to my closet, rounding out my spring/summer wardrobe for the year.

The only non-sartorial item I bought recently is that gorgeous East Fork Pottery bowl. It’s the perfect size for a bag of popcorn or serving a side dish. I just love it so much. They also have the best mugs that we use every day for coffee. They don’t have an affiliate program or any incentive for sharing this, but they do offer a $20 coupon that customers can share with their friends. Just use this link and it’ll take $20 off your first purchase.

WARDROBE
See this year’s sartorial additions here.

  • J.Crew ruched bandeau one-piece swimsuit – We’re going to Miami next week and having a oceanside trip on the books was reason enough to add a new bathing suit to my collection. I just love the color and, as you can see above, blue is my must-have hue this year! I wear my regular size in this one.
  • J.Crew draped sarong in blue floral – This runs a bit large, but I still went with my regular size since it’s meant to drape. It can be worn around your hips as a skirt, or twist the ties up around your neck as a beach dress.
  • Amazon straw bag – This is such a cute carryall for summer. It’s lined in cotton so you don’t need to worry as much about the bag losing its shape. I’m not sure it’s totally worth the price given that the quality is what you’d expect for a budget Amazon find, but I love the size and that it fits comfortably over your shoulder.
  • H&M twist-detail dress – Don’t sleep on this dress, especially if you have a small chest — it’s beautiful and sexy and just so perfect for summer, especially since there’s enough coverage and support to go sans bra if you’re petite on top. I’m actually planning on wearing it for my birthday later this month! It runs a size small for H&M sizing, so definitely try a size up than what you usually opt for at the brand.
  • H&M voluminous balloon-sleeved blouse – I love a breezy long-sleeve blouse in the summer when my skin needs a break from the sun. This is cute tucked into jeans or worn loose with shorts. I went with my typical H&M size.
  • H&M linen shorts – These 100% linen shorts are a steal and are generous enough for women with hips.
  • H&M double-weave tunic dress – I adore this dress. It’s loose and comfortable for sweltering days, although I’ll wear a half-slip under it when wearing it as a dress instead of a coverup for extra coverage when the light hits it.
  • Abercrombie & Fitch high-neck linen-blend mini dress – When did A&F grow up?! This A-line dress is perfection. I’m 5’6″ and it hits an inch or so above the knee. It’s roomy and feels well made. Plus, there are pockets! It runs loose, but not enough to size down.
  • Rothy’s slip-on sneaker – I’m a sucker for these slip-on sneakers and added this neutral to my collection for summer. I go up a half-size in Rothy’s sneakers and wear a 7.5 instead of my usual 7.
  • Ann Taylor wide cuff swing jacket – I love a swing jacket and just had to have this modern take on a trench coat. I went with my typical medium. The midsection is roomy, but that’s by design. You need to make sure you get the right fit for your shoulders.
  • Zara printed short dress – This dress isn’t the best quality, but I decided to keep it because it’s an easy option with a pair of black flats for work. (While we’re still mostly remote, we’ve been going back in-person a bit more often again.)

HOUSEHOLD

  • East Fork Bowl – This is such a beautiful bowl that you’ll have forever. While it’s called the “Popcorn Bowl” because it fits an entire bag of microwave popcorn, it’s the perfect mid-size bowl for side dishes.

On the Right Foot: Life Lately + This Week’s Links

May 15, 2023 by jessica Leave a Comment

Why hello there! Time sure flies, doesn’t it? The past month and a half has been incredibly busy with work, so the last thing I want to do when I have time to myself is be on the computer. Instead, I’ve been spending my free time at the pottery studio, dusting off the bicycle for the year, cultivating my green thumb, and hanging out with the cutest cat (I know, I’m biased).

Pictured clockwise from the upper left: lazy Saturday mornings with Lily; a camera roll of pretty blossoms make allergy season worth it; went to the Memorial Union Terrace for the first time this year and enjoyed lakeside beers; beyond proud of this round vase I threw at the studio; installed two raised garden beds (we’re waiting to see how much sunlight we get behind the garage before filling them); enamored with Bandit Tacos.

It’s getting too warm for our down comforter, so I placed an order for the quilt that I’ve had my eye on! It arrives today and is great motivation to finish up our bedroom design and share photos with you!

You have to make this rhubarb pie. Don’t skip the butter crust!

Botox has proven mental health benefits for depression and borderline personality disorder.

Isn’t this the truth?

I recently stopped by H&M to do a return, and left with this dress. It’s comfortable and a little sexy — perfect for summer!

If we had a finished basement, this would be my ideal cozy rec room situation.

Loving this geometric fruit bowl from the Molly Baz x Crate & Barrel collab.

Everything you need to clean your jewelry is right in your kitchen.

Speaking of kitchens, this renovation is seriously beautiful!

Enjoy your week!

Things I Bought & Loved in March

March 30, 2023 by jessica Leave a Comment

I channeled some of that January shopping restraint this month and refreshed my closet and home with just a couple of new additions.

WARDROBE
See this year’s sartorial additions here.

  • RIXO ‘Lorena’ Dress – With a mandarin collar, Missoni vibes, and a body-skimming silhouette, this dress is different than what I typically reach for. That’s what makes it so much fun! I wore it with black tights and these Mary Jane flats at an event recently. I went up a size so it wasn’t hugging too tightly. I was a bit concerned that the knit fabric would snag, but it held up.

HOUSEHOLD

  • West Elm linen pillow covers – I already have these in olive and they’re beautiful, but I wanted a lighter color for spring and summer and ordered a set in “natural.” I especially love the contrast edge. The pillow covers are 20″ square, but I use these 22″ inserts with them.

On the Right Foot

March 27, 2023 by jessica Leave a Comment

I feel like a broken record with “it’s been awhile,” but it’s been awhile! I’ve been incredibly busy lately between work, pottery (I’m now a studio member!), and our long weekend away in Denver. I’m hoping, though, that things will settle into a more regular clip soon. The photos above are from Garden of the Gods last weekend — a highlight of our trip to Colorado. We had beautiful spring weather and it was a welcome reprieve from the snow in Wisconsin. That said, I’m happy to be back — both at home and right here on my little corner of the internet. To get back into the swing of things, here are some links from around the web the caught my attention recently:

Is melatonin giving you nightmares?

I’m a sucker for fancy flats.

Filed under “neat old house things:” stair dust corners!

For your spring bouquets, check out this glass pedestal vase. It’s $23 and comes in different embossed patterns.

Anyone else thinking about spring gardening? Here’s a guide on how to fill your raised beds.

SHEIN has forced the fashion industry to create a new term: ultra-fast fashion. Not surprisingly, it’s awful for the environment.

Your wood cutting board should last a lifetime — if you take care of it.

Add to your reading list: Strong Female Character by Fern Brady. It’s a poignant, heart-breaking, and witty account of being an autistic woman.

Loving this sculptural bowl for warm weather decorating.

Things I Bought & Loved Last Month

March 1, 2023 by jessica Leave a Comment

Goodness, I may have been too busy to blog and make an appearance on social media last month, but I certainly made time to shop. I thought I’d continue into 2023 as picky and streamlined about my purchases as I was in January — and it was true for the most part with items that I’m enamored with — but I was definitely less conservative about adding things to my cart.

As I alluded to in this post, we’re also making strides in giving our bedroom a bit of a facelift. I’m not adding those purchases in these roundups and will plan to do a full post once I share photos of the room.

WARDROBE
See this year’s sartorial additions here.

  • J.Crew cotton voile cover-up – I’m not surprised this striped cover-up is almost sold out. It’s incredibly cute and those green stripes give it vintage Beverly Hills Hotel vibes. I went with a size up for extra room around my hips.
  • J.Crew metallic ball earrings – These eye-catching earrings are versatile and lightweight. They’ll definitely be a staple this spring.
  • Nike ‘Pegasus’ trail running shoes – We’re going to Denver for a long weekend later this month and are hoping to for nice weather that will allow for a bit of hiking. I felt like my regular Nike sneakers don’t offer enough traction on trails, so I ordered a more practical pair for hikes this year. I went with my regular size.
  • Boden tiered dress – Our niece is getting baptized this month and while I’ll be sitting a pew for the duration of it, I still wanted a new day dress with church-appropriate sleeves. (I’m not religious in the slightest and this is the first baptism I’ve been invited to. Let me know if I’m off base with this dress.) I thought this one was just so cheerful with that pretty shade of yellow, and it looks cute with ballet flats as well as sneakers. I can see myself wearing it quite a bit this spring. It ran true to size for the most part — perhaps a little generous, but it’s on sale and a size smaller wasn’t available to try.
  • Kate Spade cocktail ring – It’s been awhile since I’ve fallen this hard for a cocktail ring that I just had to have! It’s absolutely stunning in person and I love the variegated sizes of the rhinestones and faux pearls. (I keep a “Splurge” savings account open where I put around $25 per paycheck, so I can pull cash out of that fund whenever something I can’t otherwise justify sweeps me away.)

HOUSEHOLD

  • Vego raised garden beds in ‘pearl white’ – I’ve toyed with the idea of raised garden beds for a couple of years now and finally took the plunge with a couple of these 2′ x 5′ beds. I had a lot of success with tomatoes and habaneros last year, and I’m eager to expand my little garden this spring!
  • Art print by Jess Franks – This print reminds of me vintage paint-by-numbers and I just love the color combination the artist used. I bought this for our half bath, meaning it’s finally time to take and post reveal photos — just a year late!
  • Target faux shagreen box – I have a difficult time staying focused when my workspace is messy and this impulse buy was just the thing to corral miscellaneous clutter on my desk at home.

I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog of travel photos before we book our next trip. First up, photos of the gothic York Minster. I’m not religious in the slightest but I can’t resist stunning architecture and the opportunity to climb hundreds of cathedral stairs for a city view. This one only had a single rest stop about halfway up the flight of 275 steps for a closeup view of the flying buttresses — and a waiver you had to sign before your ascent to promise you’re healthy enough to make it.
