On the Right Foot: Wes Anderson’s Train Carriage, the Cult of the Nap Dress, Colorful Coupes & More!

October 25, 2021 by jessica Leave a Comment

Peek inside the train carriage Wes Anderson designed.

Make a batch of Ted Lasso’s biscuits.

In time for Halloween: the history of cemeteries.

I just ordered a set of garland ties for the upcoming holiday season. They act like a twist tie, which will help garlands stay put on a staircase railing better than Command Hooks do.

Why an art museum turned to OnlyFans.

Even if we don’t realize it, adjectives in English absolutely have an order they must follow.

I loved looking through the galleries of these time capsule homes for sale in the Chicago area.

The cult of the Nap Dress.

Yes, Reese’s pumpkins do taste better than a regular peanut butter cup.

I can’t get over how much I love the print on this blouse.

Snag a set of colorful coupes just in time for holiday entertaining. The peach set is my favorite.

On the Right Foot: Margot Tenenbaum’s Style, the Perfect Fall Coat, an Oktoberfest Guide & More!

October 11, 2021 by jessica Leave a Comment

We’ve been talking about going to Oktoberfest for the past couple of years and just booked a Munich hotel for 2022! It’s fully refundable if things change over the next year and flights aren’t even available to book yet, but still! It feels so much more likely now that the hotel is settled! If you’ve been to Munich, please send recommendations! We’re going to do five nights in the city and then head somewhere else (TBD). If Oktoberfest is on your bucket list, here’s a handy guide I came across.

What makes Margot Tenenbaum’s style so good, even 20 years later.

Twelve outdoor sconces under $100.

The layered history of banana pudding.

I’m a huge fan of a physical planner and I have my eye on this one for ’22.

Here are 20 fun facts about James Bond. (We’ve started watching all of the Bond films chronologically. We knocked out Dr. No and From Russia With Love last week.)

This had me cracking up!

I keep clicking on this coat every single day. It’s good, isn’t it? That color!

Did you hear that Eminem opened a restaurant in Detroit called Mom’s Spaghetti? If that’s not ridiculous enough, wait till you watch the commercial.

My favorite fall and winter sweater is back, this time in a pretty camel hue.

On the Right Foot: SATC Fashion, Pumpkin Bread, A Cheeky Art Move & More!

October 4, 2021 by jessica Leave a Comment

I’m loving the warm glow cast by these tealight holders.

A look back at Barbie’s Dreamhouse through the years.

How cute are these pajamas? The bunny pattern is surprisingly sophisticated and I love the playful lilac contrast hem and buttons.

It’s pumpkin season and this bread recipe was a favorite last year! It uses an entire can of pumpkin so you don’t have a little bit extra that just goes to waste.

This is fun! You can scroll back through seven decades of IKEA catalogs on the site’s digital museum.

Here’s what I bought and loved last month. (You can save $20 on your first pair of Rothy’s with this link.)

A sneak peek at the fashion on set of the Sex and the City reboot has made my Monday morning!

Did you see this cheeky move by a Danish artist?

A look at the materials we’re using for our bathroom remodels.

Thirteen thrillers to read this month.

Enjoy the first full week of October!

On the Right Foot: Botox Turns 20, A Secret Society of Bakers, An Artist to Love & More!

September 27, 2021 by jessica Leave a Comment

I can’t wait to visit Logan Mercantile (pictured above) the next time we’re in Chicago. I love a thoughtfully designed shop and I especially enjoyed reading this interview with the owners.

Celebrating Botox’s 20th anniversary and how it changed the face of aging.

I fell in love with this artist at our local art fair over the weekend. She paints tiny images on paint chips! I’d like to commission a painting with one of the paint colors we have in our home.

Three easy ways to make your home cozy for fall.

There’s a secret society of bakers in Chicago that meets weekly to help keep each other afloat.

I was recently gifted a couple of Beautycounter products to try. It’s only been a few days, but this overnight resurfacing peel is effective and leaves my complexion softer, more even, and brighter. It’s definitely worth trying! (This serum, on the other hand, doesn’t seem to do much. I’ll give it a couple of weeks before an official verdict.)

Lamb keema tacos will be the next new recipe I try.

Today is the last day to take 30% off this cozy coat.

Tips to get your résumé past the computer scanning it and into the hands of the hiring manager.

Here’s a helpful technique to argue fairly in a relationship when two people have different disagreement styles.

I’m loving this printed maxi dress for fall.

Enjoy the week!

On the Right Foot: Terrazzo Made of Eggshells, Stir Fry to Make This Week, a Silky Slip Skirt & More!

September 20, 2021 by jessica Leave a Comment

Happy Monday! I didn’t expect to take a weeklong hiatus from the blog, but my time was otherwise occupied between work and a couple of days at Summerfest in Milwaukee where we saw Ludacris and Run the Jewels. And let me just tell you that staying up till midnight two nights in a row is entirely too much for someone in her late-30s! I’m still exhausted and am looking forward to a quieter week.

Making terrazzo tiles out of eggshells!

I adore the understated fall vibes of this collection of taper candles in vintage holders.

We all instinctively know that fast fashion is bad for the environment, but how it’s wrecking havoc in Ghana is a somber reminder to buy what you really love and plan to hold on to.

I saw these rustic pasta bowls over the weekend and they’re absolutely gorgeous in green.

For just $60, this DIYer reupholstered his headboard.

I made this pork and cucumber stir fry last week and it was delish! I used hot ground pork, substituted a jalapeno for the fresno chile, and used mirin instead of Shaoxing wine since that’s what I had on hand. It lends itself well to leftovers.

Speaking of new recipes, the beginning of autumn always makes me excited to get back in the kitchen. Here are the newest cookbooks to get inspiration from.

You is coming back for a third season and I can’t wait!

How good is this slinky slip skirt?!

Have a wonderful week!

I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog of travel photos before we book our next trip. First up, photos of the gothic York Minster. I’m not religious in the slightest but I can’t resist stunning architecture and the opportunity to climb hundreds of cathedral stairs for a city view. This one only had a single rest stop about halfway up the flight of 275 steps for a closeup view of the flying buttresses — and a waiver you had to sign before your ascent to promise you’re healthy enough to make it.
