Spanish Steps

Another day, another D.C. post! During a morning stroll past the embassies, Dave suggested we take a short detour to the Spanish Steps in the Kalorama neighborhood. Constructed in 1911, this park is surprisingly secluded and tranquil for being so close to the busy streets of Dupont. I wouldn’t recommend making a special trip to the steps, but it’s a nice stop if you’re in the ‘hood.

This week, I’m coveting:

J.Crew’s new arrivals and especially this relaxed turtleneck at 25% off. I’m also loving this striped sweater, this military-inspired coat, and these glitter flats.
A sassy lip-print mini bag that I’m thisclose to buying.
A Marni-inspired necklace for just $30 (plus free shipping).
The sleek hint of gold on the heel of these ankle boots. They’re under $200 and come in four colors. I’ve tried — and failed — to find a pair of ankle boots every fall for the past three years. These might be the winners. Fingers crossed!
Navy eyeliner.
The subtle texture on a jacquard pencil skirt.
Pineapple candle holders. (I found a vintage set a few years ago on eBay.)

D.C. Day 2

My favorite thing about D.C. (aside from the history, of course), is that there’s no shortage of amazing places to take photos. This stunning building was actually an apartment complex across the street from our hotel — and looks nothing like the buildings here in Madison! We spend so much time looking for acceptable photo locations that it leaves me jealous of big city bloggers who have beauties like this in their backyards! And, on that note, have you seen Eva Chen’s Instagram account of photogenic walls in NYC? I think we need to band together to make one for every state.
